Janelle’s Post Shows How This Adorable Creature Appeals To Children

Janelle Brown shared a public service message warning parents about the danger, which may be found in their own backyards. While this post shows the Puss Caterpillar looking harmless, it is not. Because those soft, cat-like hairs hide venomous spines that can bite you.

In addition, in the post you can hear what the children say as they look at this poisonous worm. Although they think it is very beautiful to look at, it is dangerous to touch.

So these worms can be scary to meet. These little animals have a lot of hair. And this makes them look adorable.

So, you can see how the appearance of a backyard bug can entice children to want it as a pet. Or at least, try to pick it up. But this type of worm stings, and is dangerously poisonous, despite looking cute to children.

About the Puss Caterpillar…

The venom from this worm is found in its hollow spines, mixed and hidden between thick hairs. So you can be stung by this creature just by facing it. If you get one on yourself or someone else, don’t remove it with your hands.

In accordance with Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Symptoms of puss worm infestation may include the following:

  • Sudden, intense pain that often comes in waves.
  • Inflammation and rashes that cause itching. The rash consists of red spots and raised ridges.
  • Anxiety and Restlessness
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Fever.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Swollen glands.
  • Symptoms of shock.

If a person is bitten by this worm, the National Capital Poison Center suggests calling them for help if needed 1-800-222-1222. Treatment involves removing the spines using tape (sticky side down). Pull the tape and repeat with new pieces of tape until all the spines are removed.

Afterwards, gently wash the area with soap and water. It is also recommended that you seek medical attention if symptoms are severe, such as “difficulty breathing” or “badly blistering skin.”
