Ariana Grande spent time with ex Ricky Alvarez.
“They have always shared a close relationship,” the insider said exclusively Us Weekly of Grande, 33, and Alvarez, 34, after they were seen leaving a Whole Foods in Boca Raton, Florida, on Saturday, July 4. Ethan [Slater] – so he’s happy to be in touch with her again.”
The source concludes, “Ariana is grateful to have him in her life right now, and he’s been a huge source of support.”
Us has reached out to reps for Grande and Alvarez for comment.
Grande met Alvarez when she joined his band as a backup dancer on his Honeymoon Tour in February 2015. The two began dating that April and later called it quits in July 2016.
Grande aka Alvarez on her 2018 song, “Thank U, Next,” sings, “You wrote some songs about Ricky, now I’m listening and I’m laughing.” The song also gave a nod to some oldies, incl Great Sean, Pete Davidson and late Mac Millerwho died in 2018 from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 26.
Grande shared Alvarez’s reaction to being featured in the song while being interviewed Thank you, Next 2019 album.
“Ricky loved it. He was proud. But Ricky was like, ‘Why did I get such a bad line?’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Everybody’s line is so good, and mine is like, ‘Man, f*** him, he’s trash.’ I wish I could have said that,” Grande recalled during an appearance on the Zach Sang Show at the time. “I would say, ‘He wrote some songs about Ricky, don’t worry he’s trash.’ … But I didn’t. I said, ‘Now I’m listening and I’m laughing.’

Grande recently commented on her renewed connection with Alvarez by changing the song during her Eternal Sunshine Tour stop in Austin, Texas, on June 26.
“He wrote some songs about Ricky, I know he still has my back,” he sang.
After her romance with Alvarez ended, Grande dated Miller from 2016 to 2018. Pete Davidson in 2018 and married her ex-husband Dalton Gomez from 2020 to 2024. Grande moved on with Wicked costar Slater, 34, following her split from Gomez in 2023.
A source confirmed Grande and Slater’s split Us in June.
“It’s emotional. They gave it a lot of time and thought and decided to go their separate ways,” the insider said. They are still friends and very supportive. They have been quietly separated for months.
Alvarez’s dating history beyond Grande is not publicly known.
