Texas investigators this week announced a major break in a nearly decade-long case: the arrest of serial killer Bobby Charles Taylor Sr.
Taylor, 60, was arrested in Mexico after authorities say advances in DNA technology led Montgomery County, Texas, deputies to the big break.
Taylor is accused of killing Porter, Texas, Deanna Ogg, 16, who was found dead on the side of the road on September 27, 1986.

She has been sexually assaulted, beaten and stabbed, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
A man was arrested next month and convicted in the case, but a DNA test exonerated him, the agency said.

As the case went cold for nearly 40 years, DNA testing led investigators to Taylor, whose DNA was collected at the scene.
In March 2020 the Texas Rangers identified Ogg as part of the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, according to the Texas DPS, and the following year the complete evidence was submitted for enhanced DNA testing and genealogy through Bode Technology.

Taylor was then identified as a suspect in 2024 thanks to advanced DNA testing and genealogical research.
“When he was identified, investigators learned that Taylor was a fugitive from justice on an unrelated charge and was believed to be hiding in Mexico,” Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said.
