Tim Cook has been Apple’s CEO for less than two months. On Wednesday, he announced the largest domestic manufacturing commitment in the company’s history: a multi-year deal with Broadcom that is expected to exceed $30 billion, the largest commitment ever made under Apple’s American Manufacturing Program. It closes the fifteen-year management period defined by supply chain art.

Inside Broadcom’s $30 Billion Deal

an apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) said the deal with Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) will produce more than 15 billion US-made chips and includes a $1.5 billion expansion of the Broadcom facility in Fort Collins, Colorado. Bloomberg reports that the program runs through 2031, extending beyond Cook’s tenure. The Fort Collins plant will manufacture advanced radio frequency components, including FBAR filters. FBAR (Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator) filters clean the radio signals inside the iPhone so that calls and data come through clearly.

Cook’s statement was straightforward: “Apple and Broadcom have a long history together, and this new phase of our partnership continues to accelerate our commitment to American manufacturing and innovation. High-quality components built in Fort Collins are critical to delivering the incredible performance and connectivity our customers expect.” He also thanked President Trump and his administration for supporting the project, while Hock Tan praised Apple’s commitment to expanding Broadcom’s Colorado location.

Why the Domestic Chip Supply Chain Now Matters

Cook told investors in Apple’s Q2 earnings call that tight capacity at TSMC has hampered iPhone supply. Meanwhile, memory chip costs have risen nearly 500% by August 2025 as AI data centers compete with consumer electronics, pushing Apple to raise MacBook and iPad prices by 17-25% while saving iPhones. A recent 10-Q flags Apple’s reliance on third parties for components, technology, and manufacturing as high risk. Domestic supply of critical wireless silicon is now a strategic infrastructure.
