Chris Rabb of Philadelphia, a far-left state representative backed by “The Party,” won the crowded and hotly contested Democratic Alliance race for Pennsylvania’s 3rd District.
The district — rated as the most Democratic in the nation — includes much of Center City, all of North Philadelphia and West Philadelphia, and is one of the few black-majority districts in the country, with Tuesday night’s results foreshadowing a possible November outcome.
Rabb, whose district includes Mount Airy and West Oak Lane, celebrated the endorsement of progressives, including members of “The Party.”

District Sen. Sharif Street is the son of the popular yet controversial former Mayor, John Street, and is endorsed by several officials including his father’s predecessor, Ed Rendell.
He is a former chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party and has appeared to present himself as a true Philadelphian in the race.
“People who are from, live and can vote in Philadelphia are supported,” Street told the Penn Capital-Star. “The people outside the city, they are with my opponents.”
Besides Rendell, Street has had endorsements from the state party, Mayor Cherelle Parker and other prominent Philadelphians.
Street, who is Muslim, made headlines when he spoke out against a violent anti-Israel protest in the city earlier this year, telling Fox News Digital at the time that he was “strongly critical.”[s] the antisemitic rally that took place today in Rittenhouse Square.”
Rep. Gregorio Casar, D-Texas, was one of the few lawmakers who endorsed Rabb, saying in a joint statement with Reps. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., and Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., that Rabb is a “social justice activist [and] a teacher who helped bring together 1,500 professors and a legislature that took Republicans and the billionaire class to create a democracy that works for everyone rather than just the wealthy few.”

Rabb, 56, said in a statement that he also welcomes the endorsement of the left-wing Working Families Party and the Justice Democrats – a party that has supported members of the “Squad” and other candidates for the same state.
“Our coalition has the power of the people, and our partners are united in our struggle to seek a brighter future for the families and communities of mixed races that are the heart of Philly and represent the incredible strength and talent of our city,” he said.
Rabb’s political history includes working with the first Black Democrat elected to the Senate, Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun of Illinois, in the 1990s. Two Black Republicans were previously elected in the 1880s from Mississippi.
Rabb was endorsed by Philadelphia City Council Minority Leader Kendra Brooks and Minority Whip Nicolas O’Rourke, both of WFP. Republicans have only one member in the council – the long-time representative of Northeast Philadelphia, Brian O’Neill, whose presence is considered a “third party.”
