Marvel’s Most Underappreciated Movie Gets a Surprising Following

Don’t call it a comeback; they have been here for years! Marvel Studios is in the midst of a renaissance of sorts. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently on track to earn at least $1.5 billion at the box office, a number that could rise even more with positive word of mouth. Currently, Avengers: Doomsday is released later this year, and that film will bring cameo characters from the likes of the X-Men while also featuring the main characters of the MCU: Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. That’s a recipe for another monster hit that could cause fans to forget how ho-hum it was last year.
What happened last year? Marvel has released two summer blockbuster movies: Thunder Lights again Fantastic Four: First Stepseach earned less than Superman (2025), the first DCU film. That failure was impressive, and many fans thought that we would not get more films in this Marvel franchise. Well, it sounds like one of these movies will get a sequel, and it’s not the one you suspect. According to industry researcher Alex Perez, Marvel Studios is currently working on its sequel Thunder Lights.
See Who’s Back

Each month, insider Alex Perez catches fans up on the latest Marvel news in a Q&A session The Cosmic Circus. Another fan asked if there was any news about it Doctor Strange 3and the scooper said that Marvel has that film on the creative backburner. According to Perez, the studio is currently prioritizing the following projects instead: “Black Panther 3, Shang-Chi 2, Spider-Man 5, IX-Men, Thunderbolts* sequence, Blade, Midnight Sonsand the next Avengers title.” Some of them are nonsensical (like Shang-Chi 2, Spider-Man 5once X-Men), but others are surprised. Especially, the fans were scared to find out that a Thunder the sequel was still in development.
Why is it shocking that Marvel is reportedly working on Thunder succession? It all depends on the money, of course. The first film grossed $382.4 million against a budget of $180 million. That looks good on paper, though Variety it was previously reported that the film would need at least $425 million just to make it we don’t fit. The fact that it fell so far short of that goal means that Marvel might have is lost over $43 million for the film. So why would a studio work on another film that is likely to lose money?
The Gang Is Here (For Now)

This would be, effectively, an investment in Disney +. While the first one Thunder was a dud at the box office, it became a huge broadcast hit. In its first five days on Disney +, it was watched 702 million minutes, making it the number one hit in 40 countries. If most new fans check out the first movie once it’s released, Disney may be gambling that a theatrical sequel will make a lot of money. Alternatively, they can use the Thunder follow how Prime Video is said to be used Masters of the Universe: as a way to recruit new broadcast subscribers and retain old ones.
Alternatively, Marvel can (as the kids say) create a theory for you. Thunder Lights establishes a major structural development to be analyzed Avengers: Doomsday. One year after the release of this film, the MCU will receive a reset with Avengers: Secret Wars. It is possible that Thunder the sequel will be used to set up other major events or help the audience explore this brave new world. Finally, if Thunder director Jake Schreier really wants to make a sequel, Marvel might do him a favor; after all, they already have a lot of confidence in the man, having hired him to direct the first MCU X-Men film.

So far, we don’t know who will direct or who will star in the game Thunder sequel, which is important because some characters may die Doomsday and/or Secret Wars. However, it’s really good news that this popular movie (it has a critical rating of 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience rating of 93 percent) is getting a sequel. One of the most common complaints about superhero movies is that they often follow a cookie-cutter formula. Love it or hate it, Thunder Lights it was brutally first, and the studio can clearly use that pioneering spirit as they do the unthinkable and finally reboot the MCU.
