Donald Trump Shuts Down ‘Stupid’ Question From Rachel Scott

The president Donald Trump he was not impressed with one question from an ABC News political reporter Rachel Scott.

“Mr. President, you are here against the backdrop of the Iran war,” Scott, 33, asked Trump, 79, on Thursday, May 7, during a brief Q&A with reporters. “Why is the focus on all these projects right now when we’re still seeing fuel prices go up?”

While outlining his revisions to the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, Trump criticized Scott for his investigation.

“Stupid question you ask,” he replied. “We fix the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and you say, ‘Why are you fixing it?’ You understand dirt maybe better than I do, but I don’t allow it. This is one of the worst journalists. You have ABC Fake News, and it’s a horror show.”

The president went on to say, “Beauty makes our country, people make our country great. A question like this is a disgrace to our country.”

Trump continued to answer questions from several other reporters, including one unrelated to the correction from a different ABC News reporter.

After the exchange began to go viral, Scott shared a clip of the tense moment on his X account. He also posted an objective summary of what happened during the Q&A.

“I asked the president why I’m focusing on these projects now in the middle of the Iran war and with oil prices rising,” Scott wrote. with X on Thursday. “He said this question is ‘stupid’ and ‘a disgrace to the country’ saying he is ‘correcting’ the pool showing.”

Trump has repeatedly attacked Scott and other reporters with questions he deems unnecessary.

In December 2025, the president held a table in the Cabinet room, where Scott asked a question about the controversial military strike on a Venezuelan boat that was said to be carrying illegal drugs.

At the time, Scott asked if the Trump administration planned to release the full video of the attack.

“You are the most disgusting journalist in the universe,” the president replied. “Let me just tell you, you’re a horrible person – a bad reporter. And it’s always the same thing with you. I told you.”
