Chanel’s ‘barefoot’ sandals spark debate on social media

A new design from luxury fashion house Chanel is raising eyebrows, with some critics wondering if high fashion has gone a step too far.

Chanel launched its Cruise 2027 collection on Tuesday in Biarritz, France, featuring a sandal design that leaves most of the foot exposed, covering only the heel with straps tied around the ankle.

The show attracted a list of participants including Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, A$AP Rocky and Sofia Coppola.

In its review, Elle described the toe wrap shoes as “deliberately imperfect.”

“The cap-toe is out the window as the design relies solely on what the brand calls a ‘bare heel cap,'” the store wrote.

Chanel Creative Director Matthieu Blazy told Women’s Wear Daily that even his team began to question this bold concept.

“At one point, someone told me, ‘It’s too big,'” Blazy said. “And then we saw this amazing picture of the beach … so much chaos, so much explosion. I was like, ‘You know what? Let’s go!'”

Some call the design “clever” and “clever,” while others mock the unusual appearance.

“Where’s the other shoe?” one user wrote. “I’m confused.”
