A 30-year-old man with a longtime rap record was arrested on charges of breaking into a Virginia church last week in a court case led by one of the country’s top prosecutors, George Soros, who has been scrutinized by Congress.

The suspect, Akuamoa Boateng, had a number of previous charges – some dismissed – brought by the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, which is under scrutiny by Congress for its prosecutorial discretion involving career criminals and illegal immigrants who continue to commit crimes, including the recent murder of a Vernon-reaunt woman last month.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano agreed to appear with Sheriff Stacey Kincaid before Congress as lawmakers scrutinize county policies.

Boateng’s court records on the Virginia state website show several prior convictions and several upcoming hearings, as Fairfax County Police tracked him down in the church burglary case in less than 24 hours.

Police responded to the church on Ox Road in south Fairfax and found damaged property and what appeared to be stolen property.

Officials say a church car was stolen again, and detectives tracked it down in Hybla Valley, outside Alexandria, using license plate numbers.

Boateng, from Lorton, was arrested and the stolen goods were found in the car. He was charged with burglary, motor vehicle theft, forgery with intent to sell, vandalism and possession of Schedule I and Schedule II drugs and was held without bond.

Court documents for someone who matches Boateng’s first and last name, age, residence and reported date of birth reveal an impressive rap sheet for the crowded, heavily Democratic Alliance.

Boateng has previously been arrested on charges including drug possession, obstruction, burglary, bomb threat and assault charges. Descano’s representative noted that the state’s bomb threat statute includes other crimes besides making a bomb threat, and there was no mention of a bomb in that incident.

Malicious wounding in Virginia is a serious crime similar to attempted murder that involves intentional serious injury, and can involve conduct that prosecutors argue was done with intent to injure, maim, maim or kill.

In some of his recent cases, a person with the same name and date of birth is on trial for drug possession and corruption this summer.

He was found guilty of trespassing and assault but was suspended for four of the 12 months, according to state records.

The bomb threat charges were dropped after a trial, bond and preliminary hearings in 2025 and 2026.

He was found guilty of disorderly conduct in February but his sentence was suspended.

Virginians for Safe Communities reported to X that Boateng received a number of other convictions and was acquitted of assault and firearms charges, based on court system data.

Descano’s office confirmed that Boateng “attacked both his parents in their home, causing injuries” in the 2023 case, and that the prosecutor’s office considers family violence “very serious.[ly]”he also successfully obtained a protective order, jail time and psychiatric treatment for the suspect.

The prosecutor’s office categorically retracted allegations that he was soft on crime and listed some of Boateng’s actions in that and other cases:

“The defendant pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic assault and one count of assault, and was sentenced to one year and six months for the crime and given a two-year restraining order. After being released, he violated his probation, the public prosecutions department prosecuted him, and eight months of his suspended sentence were revoked.” A protective order.”

Descano’s office also cited several such cases in November 2025 – describing “a number of incidents that occurred in a short period of time” that were resolved “in parallel” and saw Boateng with a total of five charges in February – while confirming that district prosecutors are also pursuing four new cases, including a July court date.

Descano will make his first appearance on Capitol Hill on May 14 as House Republicans press him on immigration policies in the district following the arrest of a repeat offender. The Democratic Prosecutor came to power with heavy financial support from the Soros family’s Justice and Public Safety PAC, which is part of a network of political organizations backed by Hungarian-born billionaire George Soros.

Stephanie Minter’s case has prompted federal scrutiny and calls for legislative change, and Minter’s family is now backing a recall effort against Descano that could threaten his tenure, according to a local report.
