Kimmel Responds to Trump’s Joke About His ‘Old Age’ Amid Controversy

In his opening remarks on Tuesday, Kimmel, 58, played a clip of Trump’s televised news conference earlier in the day when he welcomed the UK. King Charles III again Queen Camilla on a state visit to the US
During his speech, Trump, 79, noted that his mother, Mary Anne MacLeodhe left Scotland for the US at the age of 19 and, “He met my father.” We loved him so much, we all loved him, loved him, loved him: Fred. And they had been married for 63 years.”
Turning to the wife Melania Trumpthe president then said, “And, oh, sorry, if you don’t mind, that’s a record we can’t match, dear.”
“I’m sorry, it’s not going to be right. We’re going to do well, but we’re not going to do that well,” he added.
“My God, you should be fired for that,” Kimmel said Tuesday night, referring to calls for Trump to be fired over a joke he made on his late-night ABC talk show last night.
Kimmel continued, “Only Donald Trump would want me fired for making a joke about his age and then a day later he makes a joke about his age.
Thursday, April 23, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!Kimmel held a mock White House Correspondents’ Dinner two days before the real one and joked that Melania, 56, had a “pregnant widow’s glow.”
Trump called Kimmel’s comments “calling for violence” following the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25.
“I appreciate that many people were offended by Kimmel’s disgusting call to violence and would normally not respond to anything he said, but this is beyond the pale,” Trump said on his Truth Social account on Monday, April 27. “Jimmy Kimmel should be fired immediately by Disney and ABC. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Melania, meanwhile, shared on X, “Kimmel’s hateful and violent speech is meant to divide our country. His one-liners about my family are no joke — his words hurt and deepen the political sickness in America. People like Kimmel should not have the opportunity to enter our homes every night to spread hate.”
Kimmel denied that his joke was intended to incite violence during a monologue on Monday.
“Obviously it was a joke about their age difference and the look of happiness we see on his face every time they are together, it was a joke that he is almost 80 years old and younger than me,” he said. “It was not, by any definition, a call to kill, and they know that. I’ve been outspoken for years, speaking out against gun violence, but I understand that the first lady had a stressful experience over the weekend, and almost every weekend is very stressful in that house.”
