Taylor Swift credited her harshest critics with helping shape her catalog.

For Swift, the criticism that took hold of her career eventually sparked her biggest hits.

“Criticism has been a huge boost for me,” Swift explained in an interview with The New York Times. “It was a tipping point, like a creative brief or something. There are so many songs in my career that wouldn’t exist. Like ‘Blank Space’ wouldn’t exist if I didn’t have people like, ‘Here’s a slideshow of all her boyfriends.’

“And ‘Antihero” is a song I’m still proud of. Since that song doesn’t exist if I’m criticized for all the aspects of my personality that people, you know, have a problem with or whatever.

Swift has spoken out about the infatuation and criticism of her dating life in the past. When he re-releases his album “1989” in 2023, the global star shared a foreword that highlights the judgment he received for “falling in love with an ordinary young woman.”

“The words that were starting to embarrass me in new ways to date as a normal young woman? I wanted to shut them up,” she wrote. “I was the victim of s–t shame – a tenacity and relentlessness that would be criticized and called out if it happened today.”

“Jokes about the number of my boyfriends,” Swift added. “The disparagement of my songwriting as if it was an act of mental rape by a boy gone mad. The co-signing of this story by the media. I had to stop because it was starting to hurt.”

After years of public scrutiny, Swift said she has turned those lessons into guidance for the next generation. The “Life of a Showgirl” singer turned what she learned into advice for young singers to find where they belong.

“My favorite thing is when I sit down with new singers or songwriters, I’m like, ‘Why are you reading your comments? Like, that’s too much. Like, you’re giving yourself a lot of criticism that you don’t really have,'” he told the New York Times.

“Don’t let this make you stop writing, or make you edit, or anything,” she said. “If it’s an interesting point for you to respond to, that’s a gift to be able to write something. Maybe you wouldn’t have written something that day.”

“But don’t like, God, go to the notes app and send it, like, write about it,” Swift urged. “Be creative with this. Don’t respond to trolls in your comments. That’s not what we want from you. We want your creativity.”
