Walmart announced that it plans to remodel more than 650 of its stores in the US while also opening about 20 new stores in 2026 and early 2027.
The retail giant said on Thursday the plan builds on its 2024 commitment to open or convert more than 150 new locations while revising its existing store portfolio.
“This investment is intended to create jobs, help strengthen the local economy, and make shopping faster and easier for our customers,” said Walmart, adding that the new stores and renovations will boost construction jobs during the projects while creating long-term roles in store, pharmacy and retail leadership.

Among the changes customers may notice updated stores wide aisles and updated layouts, new displays with an expanded assortment, additional pick-up and delivery service options including express delivery, updated interiors and exteriors with improved parking and landscaping, and new digital touch points to showcase the company’s online diversity to in-store shoppers.

The remodel will also update Walmart’s vision centers and pharmacies with private meeting rooms.
Walmart’s Neighborhood Markets will see an expansion Deli and hot bar selection, pharmacy delivery options, improved lighting and architecture, and improved areas to fulfill online grocery orders.
Select Neighborhood Markets is being updated with a fast-track remodeling program that aims to complete the project quickly with minimal disruption to customers.

“Our mission is simple: we want shopping to feel easy, intuitive, and connected while continuing to deliver the everyday low prices our customers have come to expect,” Walmart said.
The company’s announcement noted that this year it has already opened new Walmart Supercenters in Eastvale, California, and Apollo Beach, Jacksonville, and Valleysin Florida. It also opened a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Ocala, Florida.
Later this year, Walmart said it will expand its Supercenter in Tucson, Arizona, when it opens the new Supercenter Celina, Texas. Walmart also noted that it has opened nine new stores across Alabama, California, Florida, New Jersey, Texas and Utah by 2025.

The retailer’s announcement of store renovations and store openings comes after it announced Wednesday that it is moving forward with a redesign of its flagship Great Value label, which includes nearly 10,000 household and home brands.
The effort marks the first full brand refresh in more than 10 years and is the largest private label update in Walmart’s history.
