3. ‘Bling Ring’ (2013)

Based on the true-life account of a youth gang known as the Bling Ring, the film, directed by Sofia Coppola, explores the intersection of fame and social media as it chronicles the gang’s activities from inception to conviction in the 2000s. A shy young Marc Hall (Israel Broussard) changes schools and befriends a group of girls named Rebecca (Katie Chang), Nicki (Emma Watson), Sam (Taissa Farmigaand Chloe (Claire Julien). After Rebecca convinces Marc to leave the party with her and steal from unlocked cars, their heists quickly escalate as they start targeting celebrities, monitoring their online whereabouts.
Coppola’s most misunderstood work, Bling ring it may appear to glorify the actions of its gang, but if that’s the only way to go, then you haven’t been paying enough attention. The film deftly navigates the complexities of the nascent social media landscape and how the desire for fame and increased access to celebrities’ lives allows fans to pierce the veil between celebrity and reality. The film also features an outstanding performance from Watson.
2. ‘BlackBerry’ (2023)

This historical film chronicles the history of the Blackberry cellphone invented by Douglas Fregin (Matt Johnson) and Mike Lazaridis (Jay Baruchel), and investor Jim Balsillie (Glenn Howton). Although highly unlikely, the high-block Lazaridis and the flexible Balsille finally work together to revolutionize mobile phones before the iPhone arrives to destroy everything. BlackBerry shows the difficult growth of the company, when Fregin and Lazaridis failed the first time to Balsille, to their spectacular success and ended with the tragic death of the company at the hands of Apple.
Although there seem to be a lot of movies about product creation (Flamin’ Hot, Unfrosted, Tetric), BlackBerry it stands apart as a terrifically written and well-directed look at the rise and fall of a woefully outdated piece of technology. The film is inspired by great humor from director and co-writer Johnson (who is also behind the latter. Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie), and the theft curve It’s always sunny in Philadelphia Howerton as the ambitious Balsille.

Based on the best-selling novel by Ian McEwan, Atonement follows Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and Robbie (James McAvoy), planning their lives after a lie during the sixties. After Cecilia’s sister Briony (Saoirse Ronan) misunderstands the love affair between Cecilia and Robbie, the young couple is torn apart, and Robbie is unjustly imprisoned. Four years later, Robbie is drafted into World War II from prison, where his path crosses Cecilia’s again, and both are given a second chance at love, while Briony is given a chance to make things right.
Atonement a beautiful adaptation of a fantastic novel, with deep emotional depth, stunning cinematography and art direction from Joe Wright all in the service of iconic and moving performances from Knightley and McAvoy. Atonement it will destroy you in all the best ways, so make sure you keep the tissue box ready. The film is ultimately a powerful meditation on time and regret, with a famous, five-minute one-take shot that many consider a masterpiece in its own right.
