There are few things that make me cringe more than television renewal. Unfortunately, I’ve been burned by more than one revival so bad it makes me wonder why they brought it back in the first place. I Frasier the revival took away everything fans loved about the show except for Kelsey Grammar, and the result was a sad train wreck. Star Trek: Picard He turned to hope The Next Generation He entered a terrible state of depression and grief. As for the X-Files revival, it was so shocking that it once again destroyed the entire tangled myth of the original show.
That’s why I started sweating when I heard that Mike Judge was coming Beavis and Butt-Head back. The original series was the epitome of dead ’90s television, leaving parents and teachers astounded as it delighted an entire generation. How is it possible that the revival has captured the spirit of anarchy and lighthearted humor of the original? To my delight, though, the dimwitted Judge duo is funnier than ever, swapping everything from escape rooms to the afterlife. With a new season streaming on Netflix, now is the perfect time to revisit the funniest and most irreverent cartoon ever made.
In a way, Beavis and Butt-Head are back
There is no real story going on Beavis and Butt-Head. The title refers to a pair of idiot teenagers who live together in the same dilapidated house. When they’re not failing one high school assignment after another, they’re hanging out at home and chatting about whatever’s on TV. Like the first show, the boys spent a lot of time waxing philosophical about music videos.
But, funnily enough, they’re now watching YouTube videos, and there’s something magical about watching Beavis and Butt-Head react to weird viral videos. What’s also fun is that the new show also has the stories of all the older boys, and while the years haven’t made them any wiser, it’s made some of their exploits (watch Butt-Head trying to get too fat to get fired!) that much funnier. Maybe the Judge took a page out of Mac’s book That’s right It’s always sunny in Philadelphia; sometimes, it’s fat is something the funny one.
They want their MTV
The intelligence of Beavis and Butt-Head it was always smarter than it seemed. It’s easy to dismiss this show as dumb dreck because the titular duo spends all their time preoccupied with sex and physical activity. However, this is all part of Mike Judge’s sarcasm. Beavis and Butt-Head it is an echo of his thesis Idiocracy: that is, the country is in a constant race to the bottom, fueled by naive youth chasing their next motivations. Beavis and Butt-Head are not meant to be outsiders or outcasts; rather, they represent what today’s youth become when everything they learn comes from a screen and not a book.
In the hands of another creator, Beavis and Butt-Head it would be a very mean-spirited sarcasm, which has become a long-standing excuse for talking about children these days. But apparently the Judge is very fond of his wayward TV sons, and enjoys putting them on a series of adventures. In a strange way, all the episodes sound like What if…? a youth drama version. The challenges that boys face are always low-key, like dealing with a bully or trying to flirt with girls. But everything is filtered by an important question: “what if a complete idiot were you trying to do this?” The answer is, of course, complete hilarity.
Arguing With Lots of Laughter
There really isn’t much to say about it Beavis and Butt-Head. The new system will easily appeal to fans of the original game; after all, it retains all the punchy humor while sporting better animation and, shockingly enough, better animation. But even if you haven’t watched the old show, this series will appeal to anyone who likes floor animation. There is no fixed zoomer joke for games like this Smiling Friends and nothing mushy, overcooked Rick and Morty.
It’s the funniest situation comedy featuring two of the dumbest characters in TV history, and watching a few episodes feels like hanging out with your dumbest high school friends. You know, the ones who always knew exactly how to make you laugh. Do you want to experience that feeling? Well, unless you’re going to score tonight, all you have to do is put down the nachos, grab the remote, and stream. Beavis and Butt-Head on Netflix.
