The Numbers Are In, And Supergirl’s Word Of Mouth Is Really, Really Bad

By Chris Snellgrove | Published

right now, SupergirlThe box looks bad. Things looked bad enough when the film was estimated to earn, domestically, between $45-$55 million in its opening weekend, which was under part which one Superman received last year ($125 million). However, those speculations are getting less and less as we get closer to the film’s official release. Now, it looks like the film will earn more than $40 million domestically, with Play story 5 completely out of the box. Currently, SupergirlThe only real shot at box office success is that Infatuationyou get a great shout out to get more bottoms in the seats in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, it looks like that won’t happen. According to PostTrak (which surveys moviegoers on how they felt about a movie right after they left the theater), only 52 percent of those saw it. Supergirl would definitely recommend others to see it. This effectively compounds the problems of a bad box office: few people showed up to see this blockbuster film, and of those who did, about half said they would enthusiastically recommend it. In the short term, this is wrong Supergirl; However, in the long run, this may explain disaster of the DCU.

Definitely Bad Word of Mouth

Considering it’s the summer blockbuster of the tentpole and the second DCU film, SupergirlThe box is checked it hurts. The movie was basically dead on arrival, and everyone is now doing an autopsy on what went wrong. Much of that is still up for debate: many blame writer Ana Nogueira, while others blame DC Studios CEO James Gunn, who hired Nogueira and championed his script as one of the best he’s ever seen. Of course, many blame Craig Gillespie, the director who turned the popular, sweet comedy (Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow) in a strange and forgotten place in space.

Anyone deserves a lot of criticism, one thing is for sure: Supergirl it failed to impress nearly half of those who saw it. According to PostTrak, men make up 59 percent of the film’s audience, and only 45 percent would recommend that others see it. Women make up 41 percent of the audience, and 62 percent of them would definitely recommend that others see it. Subtract those numbers, and you’re left with only 52 percent of those surveyed who said they would enthusiastically recommend others to watch. Supergirl.

It gets worse

Supergirl finding not-so-good names helps explain a bit why the film’s opening weekend projections continue to decline. In fact, some estimate that it could earn close to $35 million domestically in its opening weekend. However, believe it or not, things get even worse when you compare Supergirl in other tight-and-flights films. For example, it had a CinemaScore rating of B-, which might not sound so bad. But that’s a lower average than Flash, widely regarded as a film that you have been killed the DCEU. It is a lower rate than Miracleswhich is actually the first MCU movie get lost money.

I’m talking about money, Miracles earned $47 million domestically in its opening weekend, and $7 million more Supergirl you will benefit. Heck, even Morbiusthe movie’s favorite Internet punchline, grossed $39.1 million, making (believe it or not) a profit; Supergirl it will be the studio’s loss. To put this in even better perspective, this latest DCU film did poorly enough at the box office that it may not even make $200 million worldwide by the time it leaves theaters. Put another way, Spider-Man: A New Day may get more out of it opening weekend than Supergirl he did in it running all over!

Obviously, all this spells bad news Supergirl. But it could spell even worse news for the DCU as a whole. Because, among other things, this bad box office and bad word of mouth proves that audiences will not turn up for flawed films with minor characters. That means we might get an equally bad box office Clayfaceis a movie about a Batman saloon that mysteriously exits before Batman makes his DCU debut.

In addition, Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira will be writing the scripts for both of them Wonder Woman again The youth of the Titans. In contrast Supergirlthese characters are absolute fan favorites, and in the hands of the right writer, they could be a runaway success for the DCU. But if the scripts of those movies end up being of low quality Supergirl‘s, they can fit the same. If those films go astray, they can cause serious damage to the insulation. That is, they may destroy this cinematic universe as surely Flash destroyed the DCU, leaving Marvel without a true rival as the MCU rebooted its entire universe Avengers: Secret Wars.
