Swalwell’s accusers are talking about allegations of sexual misconduct against the lawyer

Two women who accused Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., of sexual misconduct spoke about their experiences with the Democratic congressman who announced his resignation amid the allegations.

Ally Sammarco and Annika Albrecht opened up about their interactions with Swalwell in an interview that aired on “CBS Mornings.” Albrecht spoke for the first time in a CBS interview, as Sammarco spoke to CNN about his experience earlier. Swalwell announced his resignation from Congress and ended his gubernatorial campaign in California on Monday. He denied the allegations but admitted past mistakes.

“He thought he was untouchable,” Sammarco told CBS. “He acted recklessly. He never thought that the consequences of his actions would follow him.”

Albrecht told CBS that Swalwell “asked to mentor him” and connect with him after meeting with his student group in DC in 2019. He said Swalwell created a group chat with all the students and added him on Snapchat.

“Finally, it got to the point where he invited me to the hotel to meet him. It became clear what the connotation was. At that time I completely stopped responding. What I keep thinking about is how lucky I am that I didn’t go to that hotel,” said Albrecht in an interview.

Sammarco had a similar experience in 2021, he said, after sending Swalwell something supportive on Twitter. He was surprised when she answered.

Swalwell asked her if she was on Snapchat again, and explained some of the exchanges.

“It started as technical and platonic and slowly it became clear, they were asking me what I was wearing. Then one night during the trip, he was lying in his hotel bed, and he sent me a picture of his rod,” he said.

CBS noted that they were shown messages she sent her friends about Snapchats at the time. CBS reported that a few weeks ago, Albrecht reached out to her friend, Cheyenne Hunt, a Democratic content creator who was also present during the interview, and asked her to make a video about her experience.

Hunt revealed during an interview with CBS that she is inundated with direct messages from other women who have had similar experiences.

“I was criticized by other women’s DMs saying that there is a story I want to tell. That’s when I realized that this is bigger than I thought we knew anything,” he said when he spoke.
