Rob Reiner’s final screen appearance in Larry David’s latest HBO drama sparked criticism online.
Once a critic of the current administration, the late director’s surprise came “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America,” considering Reiner’s “last laugh” against President Donald Trump, director Jeff Schaffer told Variety.
“It’s coming out on the Fourth of July weekend, and if it somehow ruins an octogenarian’s sad weekend, that’s fine,” Schaffer told the outlet.
Social media users were quick to criticize the post-mortem and its politics nearly six months after Rob and wife Michele Reiner were found dead in their Brentwood home.

“I’m sure Reiner would rather live than get the ‘last laugh’ here,” one user wrote, while another laughed: “I’ll go ahead and say he didn’t get the last laugh.”

“Sorry, but if your son stabs you and your wife to death there is no ‘last laugh,'” one user wrote. “That’s the worst thing that could happen. I know we’ve been dealing with this for 11 years and you still don’t understand but you don’t have to do these things anymore.”
Another X user commented, “This man and his wife were killed by their son. He spent his last years on our planet thinking about Trump and believing every media lie he was told. There was no last laugh to be had. It was a sad ending.”
While portraying George Washington in the historical comedy, Reiner says he will not seek a third term in office and suggests that Congress enact a constitutional amendment restricting presidential power.
David, dressed in colonial garb, asked, “Well, what if there’s a—-le in office, a narcissistic p—k who doesn’t follow the Constitution?”

Reiner stressed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power before David intervened, “He could use the presidency to enrich himself and his family. He could send troops into American cities to terrorize and kill American citizens, all to distract from the fact that he is friends with a child abuser!”

His anti-Trump colleague Jimmy Kimmel made a surprise comment, saying, “Are you suggesting that the president would take the time to challenge anyone who dares to make fun of him? Like he’s a big kid?”

Los Angeles Fire Department officials responded to a home in the Brentwood neighborhood around 3:30 p.m. on December 14, where two bodies were found. Officials later confirmed that the bodies were those of Rob and his wife, Michele.
Nick quickly became a person of interest and was taken into custody on the night of December 14. He was formally charged two days later with two counts of first degree murder and a special case of multiple murder.

Last month, Nick sought access to his $1.5 million trust fund after it was alleged that he had been denied a large sum of money to fund his decision to hire celebrity attorney Alan Jackson.
According to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, the trustee’s alleged refusal to disburse the money forced Nick to use a court-appointed public defender even though Jackson’s company had already committed considerable resources to his defense.
