The SpaceX IPO has generated a fair amount of hype for thematic ETFs, which have already soared this year on continued semiconductor demand. Although fundamental, exposure to the S&P 500 by iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) drew more water last week, $8.3 billion and $7.4 billion. Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) as well as VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) respectively emphasize the continued popularity of all things technology for investors.
International equities also brought in a respectable $21.6 billion, followed by US fixed income and international fixed income. For now at least, US equity enthusiasm is simply dominating the market. Whether that will continue this summer remains to be seen. Most notably, SpaceX is entering the passive index this week.
On the redemption side, $1.5 billion is out Baron First Principles ETF (RONB)once Tema Space Innovators ETF (NASA) received a net outflow of approximately $690 million. The advanced ETF category was the only one with negative net flows last week, and interest in cash and commodities remained muted due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty.
