Based on- Off campus Kennedy’s book series, the show, which premiered on Wednesday, May 13, follows an elite ice hockey team and the women in their lives as they “struggle with love, heartbreak and self-discovery – forming deep friendships and lasting bonds while navigating the challenges of transitioning into adulthood,” read the official synopsis.
Hannah (Ela Bright) and Garrett (Belmont Camel) The love story took center stage in season 1 — and several key moments from their book, The Deal, were swapped for an updated version.
“We all have eight written texts,” the creator Louisa Levy you are only told Us Weekly before the show starts. “We have given [two] to the players but the writers’ room is over.”
Levy noted that filming will happen soon.
“We are getting ready to go into production and we have the season mapped out,” he said. “We know what we want to do – and we have some exciting things in store. I’ll just say … book fans are going to be very happy.”
While the documents were finalized, Levy didn’t rule out changes, adding, “They’re written. It doesn’t mean we can’t make changes. But we have a plan, we have a map [for the season]. But I’m sure the fans will really enjoy it.”

Hannah Kisses Dean Instead of Logan
In Kennedy’s version, Hannah jumped Garrett’s partner Logan instead of Dean.
“I know some people are going to be upset about that one change. But honestly, in the story that we’re trying to tell and that Logan has that kind of spark with Hannah, it’s just going to increase the story with his attraction to her,” Anthony Cipriano shared. Us Weekly. “How that moment meant nothing to Hannah but everything to Logan.”
Cipriano hoped the vision was coming.
“He cherishes her, and it’s all pure and all loving. And I think Jules’ deafness and making him the middle child is really interesting,” she added. “It completely changes the dynamic. And I’m the middle child, so I feel like I knew exactly who this guy was.”
Allie and Dean Storyline
Season 2 set Allie (Mika Abdalla) and Dean (Stephen Kalyn) as possible sequels despite being revealed in the third book in the series. That means more scenes from their book have been included in the series, which has left fans wondering what content will be used when Allie and Dean officially go head-to-head.
“Ever since the cast was announced, I feel like there’s been a lot of speculation going around the Internet, and it’s been really fun to read,” Abdalla told us about Allie and Dean’s reunion. “I think people will be surprised at least.”
He continued: “Even though we’re teasing Dean and Ali earlier than people expected, you’re still left wanting more.”
Hannah and Garrett break up
While Garrett (briefly) ended his romance with Hannah on the show, the book actually had his father’s guilt. Bright told us that changing it to focus on Hannah and Garrett was because of “the characters themselves.”
“That’s what makes it such a sad and upsetting moment. It’s so sad because they’re both having bad days at the same time. So that’s how the disagreement will end,” he said. “Because they lose the ability to communicate and hear each other. They go through their own things at the same time. So it’s really difficult, and it makes it a very sad scene.”
Cameli, on the other hand, called it “very upsetting and sad” the split in the legend, adding, “We wanted it to come from the characters.”
Levy elaborated on the scene’s vision.
“The main reason we made that change is because 11 years ago – when books were published – college athletes couldn’t monetize their image like this and now they can,” he explained. “The financial advantage that Phil has is not really working anymore in today’s environment. We knew we had to make a change there.”
He continued: “But more than that, we also wanted it to come from Garrett’s inner fear that he might be the father. So even though Phil is not directly responsible, he’s still responsible. Because that’s Garrett’s biggest fear of being his father. You don’t want to do that and put Hannah through that.”
No ‘Hands’ Ban
The most important change was how Garrett instituted the hands off campus rule after his breakup with Hannah. On the page, Garrett’s decision devastated Hannah — but it also brought them back together.
The show does things differently when Hannah gets wind that Garrett is threatening other boys to stay away from him. Hannah confronts Garrett – and that’s when they see the confusion among her team members leading to a misunderstanding.
“We were trying to find a way to keep this fan-favorite moment in the book, while not making it a problem for Garrett,” Levy told TODAY. “So we came up with a solution that still respects the original intent but makes Garrett not completely bad for doing this after breaking up with Hannah.”
Introduction by Hunter Davenport
To further Allie and Dean’s story, the show introduced Hunter Davenport despite not being linked to Allie on the page.
“It was really important to have that scene to minimize what happened between Allie and Dean. I want to see them go. I want to see them really separate,” Abdalla commented. “Allie just got out of a long-term relationship. She can’t do what she always does. … I really like the drama of Hunter’s storyline. They need to grow as individuals. So I really want to see Ali and Dean grow apart in season 2.”
