The Philadelphia Eagles traded wide receiver AJ Brown to the New England Patriots on Monday, and the wide receiver said his relationship with star quarterback Jalen Hurts has grown.

Brown, 28, said that although there was no bad blood with the former quarterback, the two broke up.

“It’s not as close as it used to be,” Brown said during an appearance on “7PM Brooklyn.”

“I believe it’s right. It’s like, there’s no bad blood. Actually, there’s still a lot of love, I love him to death. I want him to succeed and achieve all the things he wants to achieve.”

The three-time Pro Bowler said nothing happened and both sides agreed to part ways. Hurts recently broke the news of not attending Brown’s wedding in May.

“Nothing happened. People just broke up. Nothing happened between me and him, or our families, our wives, anything. It’s never been the same,” Brown said. “But life happens and you just look up sometimes and find yourself walking away. And that’s okay. And I think both sides accepted that.”

The actor who once played at Ole Miss said he was confused as to why their friendship became the subject of public discussion.

“I didn’t quite understand why our friendship turned into a platform for everyone when it comes to football because looking back we’ve never been as close as we were for a few years now, that didn’t stop anything,” said Brown.

“We were still competing, we were still pushing each other, we were still leading the team. It’s strange, people just get confused about our relationship.”

Hurts and Brown helped lead the Eagles to Super Bowl victories the past two seasons. In four seasons in Philadelphia, Brown caught 339 passes for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Despite the success, the Eagles moved on from Brown on Monday after it was more profitable to trade him on June 1 due to limited salary cap space.

The Eagles went from carrying $43.4 million in cap space to trading down to $16.3 million based on NFL salary cap rules on June 1. The team received a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick from the Patriots for Brown.

Now in New England, Brown has nothing but love for Hurts.

“Nothing but love for him, I want him to do well and achieve everything his heart desires.”
