Daveigh Chase may not be a household name, but his face is known everywhere, and he even provided the voice for the most popular Disney film of the modern era, Lilo and Stitch. Despite his popular status as a child, it did not fare well for him as an adult. The actor passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, after battles with drug addiction, homelessness, bacterial meningitis, and blood disease. He was 35 years old.
While his career was short-lived, he held three notable roles that made him almost universally recognized by fans of all stripes.
Daveigh Chase’s Iconic Roles
His best known voice acting role was as Lilo in Lilo & Stitcha 2002 Disney animated feature about a young Hawaiian girl who adapts to a dangerous but endearing environment. The story centers on Ohana, the concept of family reunion that leaves no one behind. When Stitch invades the lives of Lilo and her older sister and caretaker, Nani, the little girl grabs the dog and takes him into her home. While Nani must avoid social workers who want to separate Lilo from her, government agents and outside bounty hunters are looking for Stitch. Chase voiced Lilo in both the movie and the TV show for three seasons.
She also provided the voice of Chihiro Ogino in the English dub of Hayao Miyazaki’s popular film, The Spirit Gone. This 2001 classic introduced a new generation of viewers to Japanese animation and the work of an amazing artist, bringing it beyond the niche anime fandom to other works like Princess Mononoke again Kiki delivery service and invites more fans to join the anime craze.
From animation to live action

Abandoning his family at the age of 19, he led an adult life plagued by drug abuse and rejection by the law, according to John David Schwallier, his estranged father. She was apparently homeless, living on the streets near the hospital where she died with her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez. Hernandez tried to raise money to help him, and he and Schwallier kept in touch before his death, allowing Schwallier to spend his last days with him and announce the news.
Many people loved Daveigh Chase in her childhood roles, but despite growing into a beautiful young woman, her career dried up as an adult. His films are the epitome of everything we should remember him for, especially his exciting entries A ring. May he find peace in death that he never found in life.
