LARRY KUDLOW: Antisemitism is the root of Mamdani socialism, and it is destroying New York City.

So Mayor Zohran Mamdani and her social workers had a big night last night. And I believe that the worst part of that victory yesterday, was the message of complete unity against religious intolerance, hatred, and prejudice against the Jewish people who animate and unite this Mamdani Socialist movement – and their hope that one day they will drive the entire state of Israel into the sea. It was destroyed.
This prejudice against Jews is the worst part of the story. I’ll get to their crazy socialist economics in a moment. Yet in a city with the largest Jewish population in the world outside of Israel, this antisemitic discrimination is shocking and heartbreaking. And depression. And somehow it has to be stopped.
We know millions of Jewish people who immigrated here from Eastern Europe and elsewhere over the years, as well as Irish, Italians, Polish, Catholics, and people from all walks of life, all religions, and all ancestries. New York was a melting pot. New York City was a great place of tolerance. Respecting our differences. Now it has become a very hateful place.
In a recent survey of voters, half of the population said that the health of the city is worse than last year. Maybe that is what causes Mamdani’s hatred. It’s amazing that New York is gripped by this kind of hatred. Democrats like Mario Cuomo and Hugh Carey would not stand for this.

And Republicans won’t like George Pataki or Rudy Giuliani. Mike Bloomberg, not really. Ed Koch, certainly not. But I think a lot of this opposition started during the years of Bill DeBlasio, and the radical leftist socialists he brought with him – and now of course it continues with Mr. Mamdani, and it must be stopped. It is the most destructive element that eats the blood of New York City. And this is where I have lived and worked for the better part of 50 years. I have seen the greatest city of all. I saw the house in the dumps. It is currently in landfills.
But you know what? In addition to the faltering economy or concerns about crime, and education and other things in life – it is the scene of daily losses in Florida, Texas, the Carolinas and other places, above all that the hatred of Jews is destroying our city.
To be sure, Mamdani’s social platform of taxing wealth, desegregating businesses, open borders, abolishing ICE, blaming the police, everything in government, green new deals, packing the Supreme Court, rent controls, foreclosures, and everything else, all of that kills the economy and destroys purchasing power.
Mamdani Socialists do not represent America. That’s a good thing. Republicans, to be sure, should emphasize their themes of liberty, free enterprise, and opportunity and tolerance. Yet antisemitism is destroying New York City. And that’s the part that hurts this New Yorker the most.
