Joe Rogan slams Trump DOJ’s James Comey case as ‘nuts’

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!
Podcast giant Joe Rogan criticized the Trump Justice Department’s recent indictment of former FBI director James Comey on Friday.
“It’s nuts. It’s nuts,” Rogan said on “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
The DOJ made waves this week, indicting Comey on two charges in North Carolina, including threatening the President, in connection with his viral Instagram post last year showing seashells on the sand with the words “86 47.” Comey says he and his wife came across the message while walking on the beach and she encouraged him to take a photo to share. He later deleted the photo during the retreat.
The interpretation of the word “86” has been widely debated, ranging from the word for a restaurant meaning “to finish” to calling for murder.

“You’re going after someone for something stupid. 86 47 minus 47,” Rogan said. “But tying the guy up is nuts.”
Rogan agreed with the guest that the indictment is “revenge” against Comey for his actions leading up to Russiagate that plagued President Donald Trump’s first term in office. Trump fired Comey as FBI Director shortly after his first term in 2017 and the two have been at odds ever since.
“They’re looking for any reason, but it seems like there have to be other reasons,” Rogan said. “Like, if this guy was dirty you should have something on him besides this picture of a sea shell.”
“Trump can shoot, but not a joke,” said guest Mark Normand.

Rogan, who is supporting Trump in the 2024 election, linked Comey’s case to what he called a “crazy precedent” set by the Trump administration when it deployed ICE agents to cities across the country.
“Yes, I understand that you want undocumented criminals out of the country. I agree. However, you set an example for military personnel who have been trained for seven weeks to walk around with weapons and f—ing jackets without IDs and masks. That’s all I’m saying. This f—-ing down the road,” said Rogan.
LEGAL EXPERTS WARN COMEY ’86 47′ LAW FACES FIRST AMENDMENT CHALLENGES
Legal experts in political circles have cast doubt on whether the trial will lead to a guilty verdict. George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley told Fox News Digital that the DOJ “will face a major challenge under the First Amendment.”
“In my opinion, the image itself is protected speech,” Turley said. “In the absence of other unknown facts or factors, we cannot address the constitutional challenge.”

Comey appeared undaunted by the charges, in a statement, “I’m still innocent. I’m not afraid. And I still believe in an independent jury. So let’s go.”
Last fall, a federal judge dismissed false statement charges brought against Comey in connection with testimony he gave to Congress about whether he authorized leaks to the media about the Russia investigation.
