Jill Biden’s spokesman Michael LaRosa accused the former first lady of trying to “change the tape” after she revealed in a recent interview that she feared President Biden had suffered a stroke during his disastrous 2024 debate.
Jill is facing criticism for her apparent change of heart about her husband’s performance in his interview with then-candidate Donald Trump.
“They’re trying to change the tape in people’s minds about who he is… that’s why he’s saying to change his song a little bit about his reaction in real time,” LaRosa said. “You want to say, ‘Well, my reaction was just as disturbing and difficult as everyone else’s at home. I was shocked.’

He said Jill was “the face and voice of the country’s initial response,” and that if she had responded at the time with the sentiments she later shared with CBS, “it would have been a more human response.”
“You did a great job, you answered all the questions, you knew all the facts,” he told then-President Biden in front of a crowd of cheering supporters following the June 2024 debate.
“I don’t know what happened. I mean, I was watching it and I thought, ‘Oh my god, he’s having a stroke.’ And it really scared me,” he told CBS Sunday Morning in an interview that aired last week.
Republicans have pointed to Biden’s debate performance as evidence that he has strongly declined to continue as president, while Democrats have maintained that the debate was an outlier — for a while.

Even though Jill Biden’s comments seem to continue to make that case nearly two years later, Alex Thompson, a reporter for Axios, casts doubt on her character.
“Biden’s aides told me and Jake Tapper that they had seen him do that before and after that. Those moments were very difficult to predict and hide,” said Thompson, speaking of the opinions gathered during the meeting. the writing of “Original Sin,” a book covering President Biden’s time in office.
