Disney Banned 90s Cartoon Because of the Devil

Posted by Jonathan Klotz | Updated

Disney has been around for a long time now, and over the decades, the company has erased the movie from the timeline, Song of the Southand strangely, an episode of Black Swan. The first is because of racism, but the second is a little surprising. What can happen in life Ducks the worst spin-off Disney ever aired and never made it to Disney+? It is Satan. It turns out that the parents didn’t like the cartoon which included a plot about the Devil making a deal with one of the main characters.

Black Swan Vs. Prince of Darkness

Black Swan it was always a darker series Ducks but the banned episode, “Hot Spells,” goes a little further than the color palette and Batman-style rogue’s gallery. Goslyn, Darkwing’s daughter, is bored when she attends magic school near Darkwing and Morgana, discovering that magic is not as fun as it sounds. There are many statistics. The Janitor, Beezelbub in disguise, uses the opportunity to trick him into making a deal that grants him magic, but allows him to take Darkwing Duck’s soul.

Together, Morgana and Goslyn manage to trick Beezelbub into freeing Darkwing Duck. It’s still a Disney cartoon after all. By then the damage has been done, and parents are lighting up the switchboards at ABC complaining that their child is watching Satan himself. Ironically, it wasn’t Beezelbub’s first appearance.

Beezelbub, or Devil, or Satan, depending on how you want to refer to him, appeared in the episode “Dead Duck” when Darkwing stopped by (temporarily). Meeting the Masked Mallard at the Pearly Gates, Beezelbub tried to convince St. Peter that the hero should be in Hell. At the end of the episode, Darkwing wakes up with a bump on his head, thinking it was a dream.

It’s Not the Only Black Duck Banned Episode

More Black Swan episodes that ended up being banned, including “Tiff of the Titans,” which featured a cameo from Gizmo Duck. That one was banned because of a terrorist plot. Around September 11, 2001, an entertainment race was held that was banned, albiet for short, due to sensitivity. “Bearskin Thug” was released in 2001 again after complaints that the bear was still too scary. The best ban was “Aduckyphobia,” which was pulled because the character Arachno-Duck looked too much like some Marvel wall-crawling superhero.

With the exception of “Hot Spells,” the banned episodes have been returned to Disney+. Internationally, “Hot Spells” is available for streaming, but in the US, it has been banned for over 30 years and counting. A character giving in to temptation and making a deal with the devil is very common in shows like this Supernaturalor well, Luciferbut the afternoon cartoon was a bridge too far.

Black Swan is one of the many shows Disney hasn’t done much with over the years. For a decade, there have been rumors of a sequel featuring an aging Goslyn and an aging Drake Mallard, produced by Seth Rogen. A few months ago, the original voice of DW, Jim Cummings, said that he recorded the scene, so fans can look forward to more news about the return of Darkwing Duck in the near future. In this case, Satan will not be included.
