A frozen cheese bread product sold at Costco is being recalled over concerns it may be contaminated with salmonella, prompting the retailer to notify customers who purchased the affected items.
Champion Foods LLC has announced a voluntary recall of certain Motor City Pizza Co. pizzas. 5 Cheese Bread after hearing that the ingredient supplier had recalled the milk powder due to concerns about possible salmonella contamination.
According to the company, the recalled milk powder was supplied by a third-party manufacturer that produces the seasoning blend used in the brand’s five-cheese sauce mix.
Costco also sent notices to members who purchased the product, saying its records show that they, or one of their affiliate members, purchased Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread between Feb. 6 and May 29. The wholesale club advises customers not to use the returned product and return it to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.

TOP 5 SOURCES OF EATING ILLNESSES AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM
Champion Foods said routine testing by the seasoning mix manufacturer before the ingredient is used in production shows that batches have been tested free of salmonella. The company said, however, that it decided to withdraw “out of an abundance of caution” for the safety of customers.

Costco’s notice indicated that no illnesses or injuries associated with the recalled products have been reported.
