Clarifying Honey Tallow Balm

I’ve been researching and using tallow in recent years, and it turns out that most of you have too. My whipped tallow balm is a fan favorite because it feels silky on the skin. One of the most frequently asked questions is how to add honey to a recipe. This honey tallow balm does just that.
I have added other ingredients that are good for cleansing the skin and reducing blemishes.
When it comes to skin care, I’ve found that sometimes the simplest ingredients are the most effective. While there are many products designed to target blemishes and support clear skin, many of them can be harsh, drying, or filled with ingredients that I don’t like using. Traditional ingredients that have been used for generations though are worth accessing.
Ingredients of Honey Tallow Balm
Honey tallow balm combines several skin-loving ingredients into one simple formula. Nourishes the skin barrier while also supporting a clear complexion. Instead of stripping the skin or trying to force it to conform, this lotion focuses on giving the skin what it needs. Tallow honey balm not only moisturizes, but provides the skin with beneficial compounds to function as designed.
Tallow
One of the star ingredients in this recipe is grass-fed beef tallow. Tallow has a unique fatty acid profile that is very similar to the natural oils in our skin. This means it sinks into the skin and helps restore our natural moisture barrier.
Raw Honey
Another favorite ingredient with a long history in natural skin care. Honey is rich in beneficial compounds that keep the skin looking healthy and smooth. It also acts as a humectant, attracting and retaining moisture. This is especially helpful for skin that feels irritated, dry, or dysfunctional. I also like raw honey for acne and blemishes because it is naturally antimicrobial.
Beeswax
Beeswax helps thicken the balm and creates a breathable protective layer on the skin. Some creams use petroleum jelly as an occlusive to hold moisture. These don’t nourish the skin but can also feel heavy or greasy. Instead of sealing the skin completely, beeswax helps seal in moisture while allowing the skin to breathe.
Tamanu oil
In my classic tallow balm recipe I use olive oil as a carrier oil. It’s full of healthy fats and anti-inflammatory Omega-3s. In this version though I chose tamanu oil.
Skincare experts note how tamanu helps support skin healing and recovery. It is often used in products to improve the appearance of blemished and damaged skin. Research shows that it can help reduce redness and inflammation while improving the marks left by acne scars. It is my favorite oil to use in skin care for damaged or blemished skin.
Essential Oils
This is optional, but really helpful to add more skin benefits. And they can add flavor. I like to use tea tree essential oil on blemished or acne-prone skin. It is an effective yet gentle anti-fungal and is well known for its skin cleansing properties.
Sweet or wild orange is another favorite. It has a light, uplifting scent and can help improve the appearance of the skin. Lavender, geranium, frankincense, and cedarwood are also excellent choices for skin.
Benefits of Honey Tallow Oil
Anything that can address multiple skincare concerns at once is a win in my book. Instead of focusing only on the skin, honey tallow balm supports the overall health of the skin.
Many people unknowingly damage their skin’s barrier by over-cleansing, harsh treatments, or over-exfoliation. When the skin barrier is compromised, it can sometimes cause more irritation, dryness, and breakouts. Ingredients like tallow, honey, and tamanu oil help nourish and support the skin while maintaining moisture balance.
This balm can help soothe redness, promote scar healing, and keep skin feeling soft and moisturized. Because it contains nourishing oils, it is also useful for skin that feels irritated, dry, or irritated. Overall, honey tallow balm helps to balance the skin.
How to use Honey Tallow Balm
A little goes a long way with this ointment. I like to use a small amount to cleanse the skin and apply a thin layer on my face. If you use it as part of your skin care routine, do it after cleansing and moisturizing. Your body heat softens the oil so it glides more easily on the skin.
I use this on my face to moisturize or other areas that need a little extra love. You can also use it as a treatment for blemishes and red skin. If your skin feels greasy or looks greasy afterwards, you’ve used too much!
