Best New Show of the Year Horror Comedy on AppleTV

The 2026 television season has been a little lacking so far when it comes to original, new series. Cities it was a fun binge on Netflix, Margo Has Money Problems it was a good comedy, but nothing compared to the amazing success of Widow’s Bay on AppleTV. A creepy joke, possibly the hardest combination of genres to pull off, playing on us Twin Peaks meets Parks and Recreation. Neither show will leave you laughing out loud in one episode, before tormenting you in the next.
Widow’s Bay Most Reality Show in Years

That odd mix of games made sense from there Widow’s Bay was created by Katie Dippold, author of Parks and Recreation. The series takes place in the island town of Widow’s Bay in New England where Mayor Tom (Matthew Rhys) decides to develop tourism in the small community. The catch is that the community, especially Wyck (Stephen Root) believes that the island is cursed.
It’s not a spoiler to say that yes, yes it is cursed, and yes, there are real horrors at work on the island. That is not surprising. What’s surprising is the dry humor and perfect facial expression of Matthew Rhys, as the townspeople will deliver the most ridiculous lines with a perfectly straight face. If you played with the jokes of Parks and Recreationyou know what you’re getting into with the quirky residents of Widow’s Bay, especially Kate O’Flynn as Tom’s assistant, Patricia. There’s a sequence of hers involving a gun that will go viral on social media for years to come, and it’s one of those moments where you’ll think, “I could do the same thing.”
Slapstick Comedy, Horror, and Fantastic Visual Novels

Before starting to binge on the first season, avoid as many spoilers as possible. Widow’s Bay he sets up mysteries early on with a chained church bell, a strange basement, a rolling fog, and, while it’s not a mystery, how many Diet Cokes can City worker Dale consume? His desk is full of cans. That would not be healthy.
Keep your eyes peeled while watching Widow’s Bay as the production team was heavily influenced The Simpsons industrial use of optics. Some are called raw shots, others are behind the scenes, but when put together, they make the town of Widow’s Bay a ridiculous version of Twin Peaks.
No one had supernatural slapstick on their 2026 Bingo card, but here we are. When Netflix pulled the plug Cities, Widow’s Bay is already confirmed for a second season, which is great considering the stakes-raising season finale ended by revealing a whole new layer to the island’s mystery. We have a long wait until season 2, which gives you plenty of time to watch the summer show, and you can still convince your friends that you were a fan. Widow’s Bay before it cools down. ]
Widow’s Bay Season 1 is now streaming on AppleTV.
