Kayce Dutton gets his Yellowstone spinoff, but all anyone can talk about is how his wife, Monica, is missing The Marshals.
Yellowstonewhich premiered in 2018, introduced viewers to the fictional Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana. When the show started, Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Monica (Kelsey Asbille) marriage played a major role, and their relationship continued to be watched until the end of the game in 2024.
The fictional couple ended their time on the show while still together and raising their son, Tate (Brecken Merrill). Yellowstone fans weren’t ready to let go of their story – and neither was Grimes.
“On the last day of shooting, I thought it was my last day as Kayce. It was over for me,” Grimes recalled in an interview with. People in June. “It had been seven years since I played someone I would never see again, except to put a hat and a jacket in my closet. [spinoff].”
Grimes did not expect that his time with Kayce Dutton would end.
“[It was] a bigger life moment than I thought it would be.” Trying to put that show aside, it was hard. It was really hard, and I know this is going to sound weird, but it was emotional. It was like losing a family in a way.”
It was even harder to say goodbye to the other cast and crew. “Nobody wanted it to end,” Grimes said. “I don’t think the fans wanted it to end. A lot of us in the cast didn’t want it to end, and the studio and the network didn’t want it to end.”
Later that year, Kayce got a second chance to continue his story when CBS ordered a spinoff titled The Marshals. Promotional videos featured Kayce front and center, but Monica’s conspicuous absence left viewers confused.

After becoming a teacher at a local school on the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, Monica went on to become a professor at Montana State University while living a healthy life with Kayce, who brought them back to the Yellowstone Ranch when she experienced a previous separation from her father John (Kevin Costner).

In addition to Grimes, the show stars Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brett Cullen again Logan Marshall Green. A sneak peek showed Kayce discussing new beginnings, bones in her closet and past traumas, but Monica was nowhere to be found.
The first trailer for the show showed a wedding ring on Kayce’s finger, which could mean she’s still married – or widowed – following the events of the show. Yellowstone series finale. Before Yellowstone ended, Asbille pondered Monica and Kayce’s future, telling The Hollywood Reporter in November 2024, “Oh, [there are] definitely [hurdles]. That I think is part of marriage, the barriers. That’s just life! But I think they’ve always been a match for each other. That’s what they’ve been working so hard for, building this family and making a home with their son and looking forward. So I hope they find that peace in the end.”
Grimes, on the other hand, has shown support for a spinoff focusing on the fictional couple.
“[Kelsey and I] keep saying if Taylor calls and it’s something he wants to do and it’s something he wants to write, we’d totally agree,” he said.
The actor never talked about how The Marshals he will talk about his personal life.
“We really wanted to make sure that we gave it a real story and made it compelling and made it believable,” Grimes shared in June to People about The Marshals. “If it was like, ‘Well, he’s happy’ – we’re just going to see him happy? That’s not fair at all. But I will say this, the idea that was given to me is very good and very interesting and it really engaged me and I think it will engage the audience as well.”
He continued: “There will be some familiar faces. There will be a lot of new faces, so we’ll see how it all feels. Going back to them in a new environment will be [a] a kind of revolution.”

The Marshals begins March 1, 2026. Kelly Reilly again Cole Hauseron the other hand, they are leading their own titled spinoff Dutton Ranchfocusing on Rip and Beth. Paramount is expected to release The Madison, which will be released today.
