Alan Ritchson’s Extremely Graphic Sci-Fi Series Is The Best Show You’ll Never Watch

Before he became Reacher, but after he became Thad, Alan Ritchson played Barbie. Not that Barbie, Arthur Bailey, the hero of the wild SyFy series, Blood Drive. A throwback to the grindhouse cinema of the 70s, Blood Drive the most twisted series on the air on the cable channel. If you imagine a show about a cross-country race in the future destroyed by a natural disaster and controlled by a large corporation it sounds like Death Race 2000 or Twisted Metalyou are right. There is one small difference. Cars inside Blood Drive run in human blood.
Gas is People
Set years after the United States is torn apart by an earthquake along the Mississippi River, Blood Drive’s An evil company, Heart Enterprises, has taken control of rare resources that have been revealed by a major flaw. Water is scarce, and gas is hard to come by, so the solution is blood-powered vehicles, with useful digesters built into engines to attach human bodies. Not everyone is like that, but when you see the interior of Grace’s (Christina Ochoa) demented car, you won’t soon forget it.
Grace and Arthur, a police officer trying to do the right thing, reluctantly team up in a cross-country race. Together, they hit one nightmare after another on the open highway, from cannibals to Amazons, and all new cities and rest stop hiding a deadly secret. Every now and then, they come across a small town in need of a few good men. Despite this Blood Drive. There are no heroes here.
It’s no surprise which character ended up being a fan favorite: Julian Sink, the Blood Drive Master of Ceremonies. Voiced by Stargate’s Colin Cunningham (and John Pope on TNT’s The Falling Sky), no one can get out of the Sink. He’s irrational, possibly insane, and you can’t help but admire a man with an unsalvageable personality.
Blood Drive Was Pure Grindhouse Fun
Alan Ritchson’s involvement in the Blood Drive it seems strange to everyone who only knows you Shortcut. Ritchson’s sense of humor lives right in the Grindhouse of beauty, which is why he can deliver lines like “why are hot girls mean,” when the Queen of the Amazons roped him in. A crazy series that is well served by the setup of the case of the week. In addition to Amazons and cannibals, there are nymphomaniacs, zombies, an asylum, a fight club, and an episode inspired by Asian martial arts. Again, this is a crazy series full of blood, guts, and sex. Thanks to these two leads, there is something here to appeal to anyone.
Blood Drive it only lasted one season and it wraps up the story. SyFy cited poor ratings, but then again, it didn’t do all the marketing for a show that sounds silly at first, and is always funny, but hides a bad idea of black humor. Blood Drive streaming is hard to come by, episodes are only available for purchase on YouTube and Fandango Home, and the Blu-Ray has been out of print for a decade.
If you can find it, Blood Drive a perfect watch for anyone who appreciates the old-school grindhouse aesthetic, or wants something that dares to be different. The best part of the series though, is the fake commercials for Grindhouse films, the same gag used by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s. Mill house two features, omitted from the home video release. Still, if you want to see Alan Ritchson kill people, or Colin Cunningham have the time of his life, it’s worth hunting down a copy of SyFy’s blood-soaked series.
