Iran has been attacked by new planes as it begins to attack Israel, US bases – nationally

Iran launched a new wave of attacks against Israel, US bases and countries around the region on Thursday, while warning the US will “deeply regret” for harassing an Iranian warship and calling for “Trump’s blood.” Tehran’s escalating retaliatory strikes and ever-increasing displays of indifference even hammered Israel for the sixth day.
The war has escalated day by day, spreading beyond the Gulf. On Thursday, Azerbaijan accused Iran of attacking it with drones – although Tehran denied it had launched them. A day ago, the US said it was sinking an Iranian frigate in waters off Sri Lanka.
All the while, Israel and the US attacked Iran with strikes across the country, targeting their military and security capabilities. Iran’s attacks have targeted its Arab neighbors, disrupting oil shipments and disrupting international air traffic.
In launching the war on Saturday, the US and Israel targeted Iran’s leadership, missiles and nuclear program. The leaders also suggested that overthrowing the government was the goal – and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on the first day of the strikes. But specific goals and timelines have changed frequently, and conflict seems open.
The war has killed more than 1,200 people in Iran, more than 70 in Lebanon and a dozen in Israel, according to officials in those countries. It has disrupted the world’s oil and gas supplies, disrupted international shipping and diverted hundreds of thousands of travelers to the Middle East.

Israel has announced several incoming missile attacks and air strikes on Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, while Gulf countries have also reported that they will be attacked.
In Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, a drone was shot down near the Al Dhafra Air Base, which hosts US troops, and explosives fell to the ground, authorities said. Six people were injured.
Qatar evacuated residents near the US Embassy in Doha as a precautionary measure and later reported a missile attack on the city. Saudi Arabia said it shot down a drone in its province on the border with Jordan.

The Israeli military said it had launched an attack in Lebanon on the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group – which attacked Israel in the early days of the war – and that a wave of strikes in Iran had hit ballistic missile launch sites and other targets.
A plane crashed on Thursday near the airport in Nakhchivan, a region of Azerbaijan on the northern border with Iran that is separated from the rest of the country by Armenia. Another drone crashed near a school, injuring two people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said.
Azerbaijan called it an attack, but Iran’s general staff denied that it had launched an airstrike towards the country. The denial comes as Iran has repeatedly denied targeting oil infrastructure and other civilian targets during the war, despite its drone and missile fire hitting those sites.
A tanker was suspected of being attacked off the coast of Kuwait early Thursday, expanding the area where commercial shipping is at risk, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center run by the British military. It said there was an explosion but did not reveal the cause.
Since the war began on Saturday, ships have been attacked in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz, where about a fifth of the world’s oil is shipped. That sent oil prices soaring – although they fell briefly on Wednesday, before rebounding on Thursday.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US Navy of “atrocity at sea” for sinking the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean, killing at least 87 Iranian sailors.
“Mark my words: America will deeply regret (the example) it has set,” he said on social media.
Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli later called state television for the destruction of both Israel and “Trump’s blood.”
The statement represents a rare call for violence by the ayatollah, who is one of the highest-ranking clerics in Shiite Islam. There are many in Iran.
An Iranian warship was sunk on its way home from international tests
The Iranian ship sunk by the US Navy was returning from participating in exercises held by the Indian navy in which the US also participated.
Sri Lankan authorities said 32 crew members were rescued, while the navy recovered at least 87 bodies. Araghchi said it was carrying “about 130” workers.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed on Wednesday that an American submarine had sunk the ship with a torpedo.
Sri Lanka’s information minister and government spokesperson, Nalinda Jayatissa, told parliament on Thursday that another Iranian ship had arrived in its waters. Jayatissa did not provide further details about the ship or the number of people on board.

Israel says it is attacking most of Hezbollah in Lebanon
Among the 80 targets in Lebanon the Israeli military said it struck in the past 24 hours were “command centers” used by Hezbollah in Beirut. It showed video of the building being hit, but gave no further details.
Another eight people died in Lebanon, including two in a building hit by Israeli forces in the Beddawi refugee camp in the coastal city of Tripoli on Thursday and three on the coastal highway, authorities said. The Israeli military did not immediately say who was targeted in the strikes.
US and Israeli military officials say launches from Iran have slowed as their attacks have unleashed missiles, explosives and drones. Israel’s Homefront Command has announced that it is easing restrictions on workplaces across the country, which could reopen on Thursday if a shelter is nearby. Schools would remain closed.
About 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, said the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs in that country on Thursday. Eleven people died in Israel. Six US soldiers were killed, including an officer who was evacuated on Wednesday.
