The Most Hated Star Wars Character Is Coming Back

By Chris Snellgrove | Published
In that The Mandalorian and the Grogu ended up being a major hit and a blockbuster, it’s hard for Star Wars fans to get excited about any of the upcoming movies. Still, Lucasfilm is trying to give us something new Star Wars: The Starfightera film whose official plot has been kept under wraps. Well, unofficially, we’ve been getting dribs and drabs of what to expect from this upcoming film starring both Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth. Recently, an alleged leak has revealed a lot about the plot of the movie and its colorful cast.
According to the leak, Gosling plays an actor named Cade, who is tasked with escorting Flynn Gray’s character to a place called Adaria, which has a Jedi temple that is a refuge for these persecuted spacemen. This goes along with other rumors about the young character being a Force user who needs a safe place to develop his powers. Now, many Star Wars fans are sure that one of the most hated characters in the franchise will be waiting on that planet: Daisy Ridley’s Rey!
Ditch the Squadron, Keep the Rogue

There are many interesting details about Star Wars: The Starfighterincluding confirmed details (like a lightsaber duel scene directed by Tom Cruise) and exciting rumors (like Mia Goth playing some kind of evil Force user). But with the latest leaks coming out Bespin Bulletinfans are often buzzing about this new Jedi planet, Adaria. Apparently, the planet is inspired by East Asia, with a very green / brown color palette. The planet is apparently full of Padawan students, all rocking the beige coats we last saw teenagers wearing in the prequels.
Based on this new leaked information, many Star Wars fans are sure that our heroes will find Daisy Ridley’s Rey on this planet, almost at the end of the movie. Why is that? First, Disney keeps making plans to bring this character back and trap him. Damon Lindelof was developing a film focusing on an elderly Rey, to be played by Helen Mirren, but that film was scrapped. Recently, there were plans for Rey to be in the headlines A new Jedi order movie, where John Boyega says Finn may appear. Although it hasn’t been officially cancelled, there haven’t been any major updates on the movie for years.
Somehow, Rey Came Back

Now, the latest rumor is that Disney is getting in on the idea and making Rey and the next generation of Jedi the focus of several Star Wars projects. If that is true, then Rey would be the most logical person to train these Padawans on the planet Adaria. While A star director Shawn Levy (the same man who brought us Deadpool and Wolverine) has long maintained that this will be a standalone film, it sounds like a prelude to a new era for the franchise. Ridley’s Rey will appear at the end, setting the stage for her appearances in future films and TV shows.
Although there are fans who really hate the character, Rey’s return makes a lot of sense. Ridley gave a great performance in the sequels; it’s not his fault they were poorly written pieces of garbage. With better writers, he could really stand out, and Star Wars could finally have a new focus. Since then Rise of Skywalkerthis business has been disrupted by animated TV shows, many of which have nothing to do with it. Done right, Rey’s reappearance will give the writers a bigger arc (the New Jedi Order) to work with, allowing them to do something better (hopefully). the lot better) than that The Mandalorian and the Grogu.

However, right now this is all just rumors and speculation. The return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey has not been officially confirmed, but fans are clinging to the idea because it gives them hope. As Rogue One reminded us memorably, rebellion is built on hope, and (ahem) new hope that gives us hope for the future. If you’re a pessimist, however, and question whether Rey’s return will backfire, I’ll match your criticism with my question: how much even worse can star wars get it?
Love it or hate it, this franchise has nowhere to go but up, and Ridley might be the only one to get there.
