Katy Perry was forced to cancel her performance at Belgium’s Werchter Boutique hours before she was due to take the stage on Saturday after bad weather forecasts prompted officials to cancel the outdoor event.
In an Instagram post, the 41-year-old pop star apologized to fans and expressed her disappointment that the show would not go ahead, noting that there was “no other way” in the decision.
“Sadly my @WerchterBoutique set tonight is impossible due to a government mandated cancellation due to inclement weather and crowd safety concerns,” Perry wrote.

“Unfortunately this is beyond my control, but the safety of all 55,000 of you always comes first,” Perry added. “I’m sorry I can’t change the weather, even though it’s sad that we can’t all be together tonight.”
“I was looking forward to coming back after 17 years, I was going to wear the same outfit from that 2009 game. I love you all, and please come home safe.”
Perry’s performance would mark his first return to the Festivalpark Werchter since July 2009. The singer took the stage at the annual four-day event Rock Werchter while on his first solo tour Hello Katy, following the release of his 2008 breakthrough album “One of the Boys.”

The Grammy Award nominee’s 90-minute closing set at the one-day Werchter Boutique festival was scheduled to begin at 10pm following Pitbull’s performance.
In his letter, the “Roar” singer also included an official statement from Werchter Boutique, which read, “Werchter Boutique will close after the Pitbull concert. After consultation with the Rock Werchter security committee, where all authorities and associations are represented, it has been decided that Werchter Boutique will close at 9pm tonight.”
“This decision was taken because of the weather which predicts that there will be strong thunderstorms from midnight early,” the statement continued. “The governor of Flemish Brabant has also issued a BE-Alert regarding this. The festival will end after Pitbull’s performance. Katy Perry’s concert will not continue.”
