Bill Maher went after Darializa Avila Chevalier – a socialist backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani – on Friday after Chevalier won the Democratic Primary for New York’s 13th Congressional District and scrutinized her responses to prisons, deportations and past anti-American social media posts.

Maher opened “Real Time with Bill Maher” with a monologue about Avila Chevalier’s refusal to say outright that a convicted murderer should be arrested during a New York Editorial Board interview.

“The New York Times asked him, ‘If someone kills someone randomly, should they go to jail?’ I couldn’t get him to agree to that,” said Maher. “So, there’s a brain virus that’s awakened, and I think we’ve found patient zero. Her name is Darializa Avila Chevalier.”

Avila Chevalier, 32, defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat, DN.Y., chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, in Tuesday’s primaries. Chevalier led with 49.4% to Espaillat’s 45.9%.

Maher also cited past statements about the United States and his reported plan to kneel during congressional swearing-in.

“He also says that the United States, the country he is running to be a part of, has been consumed by the indigenous world, and he says that this country, America, is a disgrace, a shame,” said Maher. “During the oath of office, he will take a knee.”

The New York Editorial Board pressed Chevalier several times about how a murderer should be treated under his abolitionist views. He said that arrests are still taking place in the existing system but he did not directly approve it.

“The fact that this killing happened is very sad. The fact that there was a situation where that could happen is sad, and all of that is an indication of the programs that allow that situation to happen,” said Avila Chevalier.

Chevalier also told the board that he opposes dismissal in all cases.

MANAGER OF SENY BETTING Oaths WITH MADANI ON RESIDENTIAL AGENDA: ‘I WILL STOP HIM’

“I’m not good about being deported,” he said. “I think all deportations are wrong because I think it’s an incredibly cruel punishment given to people just because of where they were born.”

His campaign platform includes, “Abolish ICE,” Medicare for All, Housing for All and “Babies, not Bombs” agenda. His website says he will “fight to end the deportation machine” and “spend off” money spent on foreign wars.

The New York Times described Chevalier as a candidate “who has voiced support for abolishing police, borders and prisons and seizing property from landlords.”
