Kyle Buschyour wife, Samantha Buschhonors the late NASCAR legend posthumously on a day a racer should spend with his children.
“This still doesn’t feel real at all. I’ve been up all night thinking about what today must look like for Kyle and the kids. Father’s Day cards are already made, sitting in a drawer with no one to give them to. I’m trying to find a way to navigate a day that should be filled with so much joy for them,” Samantha wrote on Instagram on Sunday, June 21. wrap herself in her arms, or sit down for another letter, one question, one moment.”
He continued, “Nothing made him prouder than being the father of Braxton and Lennix. Watching these memories hurts more than I can describe, but it also reminds me how lucky we were to have him.”
Samantha ended her post with a message from Kyle, sharing their family — including son Braxton, 11, and daughter Lennix, 4 — “[misses] you every second of every day.”
“Our hearts ache for you, but it’s more than that. Your absence is something we feel physically. Our bodies ache for missing you, for reaching someone who isn’t there, for loving someone we can no longer hold,” wrote Samantha. “I will continue to tell your stories, share your laughs, and make sure that Braxton and Lennix always know how deeply their father loved them. Happy Father’s Day. We love you and miss you more than words can say.”
Alongside the message, Samantha shared a few clips of Kyle and their children over the years. In another video, the family shared a sweet hug while standing on the race track.
News broke in May that Kyle had died suddenly at the age of 41. A day before his death, the runner was hospitalized after being found unresponsive in a simulated race in North Carolina. Death certificate obtained by Us Weekly revealed that Kyle had pneumonia “days or weeks” before his death, which turned out to be sepsis, a life-threatening blood infection that can cause multiple organ failure.
Samantha spoke about Kyle’s death the following month, sharing a statement signed by her, Brexton and Lennix.

“As a family, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you,” he wrote on Instagram. “Prayers, messages, flowers, food, hugs, and countless acts of kindness have gotten us through the saddest days of our lives.” Although our hearts are completely broken, we have felt God’s presence and arms wrapped tightly around each of you.”
He continued, “The love that has surrounded our family during this unimaginable time has brought comfort in the midst of so much pain. Knowing the impact Kyle has on others and seeing how they honor him with each unique act of giving is a true testament to how important Kyle is to so many people. There are times when the weight of this loss feels impossible to bear, but God doesn’t always show us through you.”
Samantha concluded by sharing “family and friends with fans and complete strangers” so they “seem like us.”
“Thank you for loving our family so well,” he wrote. “Thank you for loving Kyle. Thank you for respecting him. We may not be able to find the words to fully express how much your support means to us, but please know that we are very grateful.”
