The United States came away with 33 medals at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, with most of them coming from women’s athletes who competed in Italy this month.
There were 17 medals won by American women athletes, including eight of the 12 gold medals.
As many Americans enjoyed watching the events at home, LPGA Tour legend Michelle Wie West was in Milan watching the US reach the podium in several events.

“I had the privilege of being in Milan with Nike and seeing the Winter Olympics for the first time in person. It’s amazing to see all these competitors,” he told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “I’ll have to see [silver medalist] Chloe [Kim] he did his halfpipe, and that was amazing.
“Women’s hockey, I mean, it’s amazing. I got to go to the first game, and the lights go out.”
From Mia Manganello in speed skating, to Alysa Liu’s impressive gold medal in figure skating, Wie West admitted that the Olympics made her a little emotional seeing athletes achieve their dreams.
“Throughout this Winter Olympic season it’s been – I think every Olympic season is very constructive,” she said. “But this one was very encouraging, and it felt like the female athletes knocked it out of the park.
“I feel like every Olympics has a negative effect on me. I see the athletes achieve their dreams and it’s great. It was great to see it in person.”

Wie West also added that Lindsey Vonn’s “painful” crash, after competing with a torn ACL, was hard to see. However, “seeing his journey up to that point and even after that has been very inspiring to me.”
Breanna Stewart, a three-time gold medalist with Team USA Women’s basketball, shared Wie West’s sentiments about seeing American success overseas.
“I think there are a lot of events that I’ve learned a lot from, whether it’s bobsledding, or curling, or watching hockey,” he said. “I just want to cheer on the USA at any event they do, and see the pride and love the athletes have every time they step up to compete in their sport.”

Stewart even talked about getting “goosebumps” thinking about how it feels to have a medal around your neck, and even better, to see the flag being raised while the national anthem is being played.
“It’s actually the satisfaction and the reasons why you do it and why you go through those difficult times and times,” he explained. “To me, the Olympics are at the highest level. You play your game at the highest level of anyone in the world, and you can see that. It’s just an overwhelming feeling no matter how many times you do it. Just the pride and knowing that you’re representing something bigger than yourself always comes from all around.”
