Spring & Mulberry is expanding its recall of select chocolate bars to include all 12 of its product lines due to concerns about possible Salmonella contamination, according to federal regulators.
Friday’s announcement marks the second expansion of the recall affecting the North Carolina-based company, a brand known for its chocolate flavor, especially for dates.
The US Food and Drug Administration said the move follows an investigation that identified a batch of dates as a possible source of the contamination.
“The investigation has now identified one ingredient used during the production of this company’s chocolate as a possible source of contamination,” said the agency.
In response, Spring & Mulberry recalls all finished products made using multiple date ingredients.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause “serious and sometimes fatal illnesses in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA said.
Symptoms in healthy people may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
In rare and severe cases, Salmonella can spread to the bloodstream, possibly causing arterial disease, endocarditis or arthritis.
