NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang says AI is just getting started in the next decade of growth

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said artificial intelligence is just beginning and nowhere near its peak, predicting that AI will “be everywhere” as the industry enters a decade of growth.

Huang said this during an interview that aired Thursday on FOX Business’ “The Claman Countdown” with host Liz Claman.

“AI is going to be everywhere. So we have a lot of runway, a lot and a lot of growth ahead of us,” he said.

“It will take time, but we have plenty of time,” he continued. “I think that’s when, at the beginning of almost a decade of construction, people think it looks like a lot of power is being built. But in reality, it’s a very small amount of the total capacity that the world needs. The amount of computing that we need is much greater than the amount of capacity that we’re putting online this year and next year.”

Huang also said that his company has led to revenue from sales to China in the current quarter, but they are “hoping for more.”

Asked why that remains the case even after the Trump administration opened up sales channels for some chips in China, Huang said NVIDIA is still waiting for customers to decide how much to buy.

“We have authorized sub-licensing for some customers, and now customers have to decide for themselves how much they are allowed to buy,” Huang said.

He also said that concerns that China will use American technology to develop its AI industry are “misplaced.”

“Obviously they have their own technology,” he added. “I think the concern about China relying on American technology to develop their AI industry is just misplaced. AI is consolidating. It consolidates the chip industry that we’re a part of. It consolidates, of course, models and applications. And it’s a fiber layer cake, if you will. Every single layer has an industry and all those industries have to be globally competitive in order to be secure from the AI leadership of the United States.”

He stressed that he believes the decision to bar the United States out of the Chinese market “definitely proved to be the wrong decision.”

The NVIDIA executive went on to explain how jobs may be influenced by AI, predicting that it is “reasonable” to expect that “some jobs will become obsolete in the future, many new jobs will be created and many jobs will be replaced.”

Although Huang notes that AI is creating jobs across the US through factories, data centers, chip plants and computer plants that need to be built to develop the technology.

“The number of trade-skills jobs we’re creating in the United States is truly astounding,” he said. “I’m glad to see it, and that’s part of our economy and our whole society that we would really like to build in the United Sates so that we can be a renewed country.”

Speaking of possible unemployment due to AI, he said, “one of the things that helps the most is to think about work, to think about jobs, both as the work involved in the work and the purpose of the work.”

Huang also talked about the progress of AI, saying that while it is already “very smart” in “small spaces,” it will “change every month.”

“This year is going to be a big success in general artificial intelligence, and we’re seeing that now,” he said. “We’ve seen the floodgate of business use of AI really start to grow. So this is a great time.”
