Rookie Kills Monica In A Shocking Death Before The Finale

The Rookie he just killed off a character in a shocking death scene before the end of season 8.
On the Monday, April 27, episode of ABC’s hit series, Monica (Bridget Regan) tried to escape from the Feds and a fallen arms dealer.
He tried to find a way to escape – after having a conversation with ex Wesley (Shawn Ashmore) – but his journey to the airport took a turn when the driver passed the LAX exit.
Monica accepted her fate by simply asking the driver not to shoot her “in the face.” Instead, Monica is shot twice in the chest and her body is left on the side of the road by Tim (Eric Winter), Nolan (Nathan Fillion), Nyla (Mekia Cox), Angela (Alyssa DiazGray (Richard T. Jones) and Garza ((Felix Solis) to find out before Wesley joined them.
“When [showrunner] Alexi [Hawley] call me — I mean, first of all, whenever a runner calls you, you have to worry that it’s a death call. But really, I wasn’t surprised. I’m so glad he lasted as long as he did,” said Regan TV Insider. “If you play with fire, as long as he played, you’re going to get burned. And like I said to Alexi and everybody, I was like he’s not in his ninth life. He’s 37 years old.”
Regan pointed out that Monica “escaped multiple murders and prison time.”
“When his number went up at the end, I wasn’t surprised. I thought, enough. He’s had amazing performances, four years in this program. I’m just full of gratitude,” he continued. But what surprised me was how sad I felt for him. Not that he died, but that he never truly repented, that he succumbed to the dark side and could not find a way back. And I felt like there was this version of Monica that could have been something else, but she just couldn’t get there. So for me, that was the real tragedy of it all.
The actress recalled being promised an epic death on screen, adding, “You hear about all these popular shows where everyone dies all the time, like The Sopranos, etc. Everyone reads the script, saying, ‘I’m dying? I’m dying? I’m dying? I’m dying?’ I always had that in my mind because I felt it was inevitable. Either he would have gone to prison at some point, or he would have died.”
For Regan, it was special to see Monica walking alone.
“The most interesting thing about him is that he is. The line ‘no face’ is the way he will always be vain, handsome, greedy. That’s just who he is. He can be very forgetful,” he said. “With Monica, she always walks that line. She has to be confident enough to believe that she can hold her own in this criminal world, but I always wanted her to be believable, but there’s also something very sweet about who she is. She’s very sweet, and she refuses to be anything other than herself. And of course, we were always balancing.”
Regan admitted that wrapping up her time on The Rookie was “emotional,” saying, “It was hard. I was devastated. I was like, oh man, this is an amazing show to be a part of. But I felt like, creatively, it was time for him to go. Because if we’re going to eat all these dangerous villains if Aiden was Johnson, he wouldn’t have caught Aiden at some point.”
The Rookie airs on ABC Mondays at 10 pm ET.
