An illegal immigrant is accused of biting a 3-year-old girl in the face during an attack at a Texas park, authorities said, as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has now placed a detainer on the suspect following his arrest.

Gabriella Perez, 27, and her daughter, Amelia Perez, 3, were walking in Espada Park on April 18 when they were attacked by Arharva Vyas, 24, who is from India, according to San Antonio police.

Police said Vyas allegedly hit the mother by pulling her hair, punched her, knocked her daughter down, then attacked the child and bit her on the face.

The case has drawn scrutiny because Vyas was previously jailed for assault for four months after entering the US in 2023, but was not removed from the country, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Witnesses restrained Vyas until police arrived, according to police.

The child’s mother later described the attack as something “out of a zombie movie.”

Since the attack, Perez has created a GoFundMe page, saying her daughter has lost two teeth and “needs constant care, comfort, and reassurance.”

“He can’t go back to kindergarten or stay with someone else, so I took some time away from work to be close to him,” reads the description of the page.

Vyas has been charged with injury to a child with intent to injure, assault with intent to injure and trespassing, according to authorities. He was booked into the Bexar County Detention Center.

ICE filed a detainer request that local authorities transfer Vyas to federal custody after his felony conviction, according to DHS.

DHS said Vyas first entered the United States in August 2023 on a student visa. Three months later, he was arrested at the University of Texas on assault charges, and university police contacted ICE.

According to DHS, “Biden Admin determined that the crime was false enough to warrant a visa revocation and decided not to take enforcement action against Vyas.”

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis criticized the earlier decision not to revoke Vyas’ visa.

“This illegal bandit bit this child brutally until two teeth came out. This cruel act against this woman and her three-year-old child in the park could not have been avoided,” he said. “The Biden administration MUST NOT release this animal following his arrest for assault. We are working with our partners in Texas to ensure that this illegal criminal never again roams American communities.”

DHS did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for additional comment.
