The president Donald Trump signed the “Preserving America’s Game” executive order Friday, pledging to keep the annual Army-Navy game as a stand-alone event during the college football season.

Trump signed the order when the Midshipmen visited the White House on Friday to celebrate their victory in the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, which is awarded to the Army, Navy or Air Force when one of the teams goes 2-0 against their opponents during the season.

However, Stephen A. Smith did not like the move.

“It’s things like this from the President of the United States that piss me off. And he sticks his nose in places that I don’t believe the President of the United States should stick his nose in,” Smith said during his Friday afternoon SiriusXM show on Mad Dog Sports Radio, via Awful Announcing.

“Who the hell does this man think he is? Every time I try to be fair and considerate of this president, he pulls BS like this. It really pisses me off. It really pisses me off. Who the hell does he think he is? If the Army-Navy game is on NBC, FOX and CBS should be exempt from having their own content on the president’s order removing anything from certain networks? Army-Navy, that they want to focus on for Army-Navy sports, what if he doesn’t want to watch Army-Navy?

“Who do you think this person is?! That’s the BS that’s set our country on fire right now. Right there. Because you’re overstepping your bounds. Don’t you have enough things to focus on? Now you’re trying to tell us what football games to watch?! Who do you think you are?!”

With the current College Football Playoff schedule, the Army-Navy game currently sits between the conference tournament weekend and the first weekend of the 12-team tournament. However, a possible increase could lead to earlier games. The Army-Navy game will be broadcast on CBS until 2038.

Navy defeated Army in a thrilling 17-16 victory to win the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in December amid a historic season in which the program finished 11-2, marking the team’s first 10-game winning streak in program history.

“The annual Army-Navy game is truly one of the most important events in all of sports, but in recent years, the expansion of the College Football Playoff has encroached on this sacred four-hour slot reserved for the Army-Navy,” the president said during his remarks on Friday. “I will sign an executive order to ensure that only the second Saturday in December is preserved. No one plays football – not Ohio State against Notre Dame, not LSU against Alabama – no one plays football for four hours during that most important time of the year in December. The Army-Navy game is preserved forever.”

Earlier this month, Trump held a panel to try to combat NIL effects on college sports.

Trump joked that the consequences of signing the executive order could result in a lawsuit.

“Yeah, we’re probably going to get sued at some point. We’re going to get sued, but we win those suits, and we’re going to win this one.”

Trump first hinted at his intentions to sign the executive order in a Truth Social post in January, saying at the time, “This Wonderful Tradition is now at risk of being sidelined for more College Playoff Games, and Big TV Money. NO MORE!”
