Sophia Bush shared an update on the long awaited One Tree Hill reboot – and it doesn’t sound like good news.
“You know, we’ve done such a great job and it’s been great to see everyone on our team excited about that call, having amazing ideas about where their characters are going to be, what stories they’d like to explore,” Bush, 43, said. Entertainment Tonight on Sunday, March 15, at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscar viewing party in Los Angeles.
“I would say that we all know very well what’s going on in the media right now and who the media is being bought, and I don’t know that any of us are current best friends of the media conglomerates or favorite people,” he continued, apparently referring to Paramount’s purchase of Warner Bros. following a bidding war with Netflix.
“But I’m fine with that. I’m patient, if nothing else,” Bush said, adding, “That’s the classiest way I can say it!”
Bush’s girlfriend, Ashlyn Harrisa voice came in, “That was a long winded road.” [saying]’You’ll have to wait and see.’”
Variety it was first reported in August 2024 that a One Tree Hill A series sequel was in development at Netflix, with Bush, Hilarie Burton again Danneel Ackles set to high productions. Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the original teen drama, was filmed for production.
As well as producing, Bush and Burton were expected to reprise their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer.
Bush confirmed the project in an Instagram post at the time, writing, “What if you could really go back home? If there was an opportunity to meet creative creators and create a place where all our friends can show their skills? Take care of our history? Take back our place? Respect our fans? Sign us up.”
“There is only one Tree Hill, and you – #OTHfam – have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It’s a place where ‘everything gets better and everything is safe,'” he continued.
One Tree Hill originally ran for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012 on The WB and later The CW. Actors are also included Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty again Bethany Joy Lenz.
Bush previously shared an update on the development process in December 2024.
“It’s sad when news of the development gets leaked so early … that’s a bummer because we wanted to cross the finish line and have a party,” Bush said. Reach out to Hollywood at that time. “But I will say that the show is really amazing. The fans have saved this show and have been asking for it for a long time, and they came to us in the studio about it.”
“I think 10 years ago, I would have said, ‘Not in your life.’ Now I see an opportunity to not only have a luxury show, but a kind of site that is important to people,” he continued. “So starting to figure out how to tell these stories and bring our whole ragtag team together feels really amazing.”
