A mother has been arrested after she left her child alone at a bar to party alone while on a trip to Florida.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Amanda Thorpe She left her child at Universal CityWalk, a popular dining and nightlife area near the Universal Orlando Resort, on Saturday, March 7, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed Us Weekly.
Deputies responded to the scene after receiving reports of a missing child. Then they found a 12-year-old girl, who was sitting alone on a bar stool in one of the areas.
Authorities said the girl appeared distressed and was crying when police found her.
Investigators eventually identified the girl’s mother as Thorpe, who was reportedly with her at the bar that night. The affidavit revealed that the people of the area realized that something was wrong when the child was upset about something while the mother and daughter were still in the area.
Deputies said Thorpe wanted to leave the area and go to another bar, even though the daughter asked them to go back to their hotel room because she was tired.
The mother-daughter feud escalated, and authorities say she left Thorpe alone at the bar after he sexually assaulted the girl. Thorpe even told the girl to “F**k you” before speeding off, according to the affidavit. The child then sat alone at the bar.
People who witnessed the exchange alerted staff, and Universal’s security team was contacted to help locate the girl’s mother.
Security personnel found Thorpe at the Red Coconut Club, another part of the entertainment complex. Detectives say he was dancing alone with an alcoholic drink when they approached him.
Thorpe’s eyes were red and there were “uncontrollable body movements, unsteadiness when walking, and a fresh fruity odor coming from his mouth,” according to the affidavit.
While speaking with deputies, Thorpe allegedly said that he did not realize that he had left his daughter. She also told police that she thought her daughter had followed her back to the hotel. However, the investigators concluded that the child remained where he was left until security was affected.
After this incident, Thorpe was arrested and charged with child neglect. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond.

It is not yet clear if Thorpe has entered his plea or if he has a legal position following his arrest. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond Us‘ request for comment.
The girl’s grandfather was contacted and later picked her up according to officials. The authorities also made sure that the girl was safely reunited with family members after her mother was arrested.
Members of the security team also reported the incident to the Florida Department of Children and Families, which may lead to a separate review of the situation.
