Morrissey Cancels Valencia Concert Due To Insomnia

The “Suedehead” singer, 66, canceled his sold-out concert at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain, on Thursday, March 12, due to “lack of sleep”.

A post on Morrissey’s official website said that after spending two days driving from Milan to his hotel in Valencia, the former Smiths frontman was unable to get a good rest on Wednesday, March 11, due to the city’s infamous Las Fallas beach festival celebrating St. Joseph.

“Any kind of sleep or rest throughout the night was impossible due to the noise of the festival / loud techno announcements / megaphone,” the message reads. “This experience has left Morrissey in a critical position.”

In a follow-up post, Morrissey said he would not list his show as “cancelled” but that it was “impossible” to do so given the “circumstances.”

The Grammy nominee described her stay at the hotel as “unspeakable hell” in a third message later Thursday, dramatically writing, “It’s going to take me a year to recover. And that’s an understatement.”

None of the posts included information about refunds for ticket holders. However, the site’s website shared that fans will be refunded “soon … using the same payment method they used to make the purchase.” The page also noted that the concert was canceled “due to circumstances beyond the promoter’s control.”
