MAFS UK’s Mel Schilling Reveals Terminal Cancer Diagnosis

Married to First Sight UK an expert Mel Schilling diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Australian relationship guru, a staple of both MAFS UK again MAFS Australiarevealed the news in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday, March 12. She wrote that after two years of treatment, “My oncology team has now told me there is nothing else they can do.”

Schilling, 54, shared a photo of herself holding her husband, Garethand daughter Maddie and wrote, “In December 2023 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after a tumor the size of a lemon was found during a scan. ‘Terry,’ as I called him, was successfully removed and I was given the all clear – which many of you already know.”

“Unfortunately, in late February 2024 when I was examined, small nodules were found in my lungs. The cancer had spread and my world changed again in an instant,” he continued. “Two years ago, I was still recording MAFSI underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy and was later told that I was eligible for an important clinical trial specific to my gene, which would begin in March 2026. Once again, my hope grew that I might beat this thing.”

Schilling wrote that he experienced “a headache and numbness on my right side” at Christmas in December 2025 and received news that his cancer was gone.

“After many tests I was told the cancer had spread to the left side of my brain and, despite sessions of radiotherapy, my oncology team now told me there was nothing more they could do,” she wrote.

“Hearing those words changes everything,” he continued.

Schilling continued, “This is where I am now. My light is starting to fade — and fast. But I’m still here, I’m still fighting, and I’m surrounded by amazing love. Simple tasks have become incredibly difficult and I’m counting on my beautiful family to take care of me. I honestly don’t know how long I have left, but I know I’ll be the last part of my people’s love.”

Schilling ended his post with some advice for his fans.

“If I could leave you with one thing, it would be this: if something goes wrong, please get it checked out. It could save your life,” he wrote.

Schilling joined MAFS UK as a matchup specialist in 2021 after appearing in the same role for the past few seasons MAFS Australia.

The UK’s Channel 4 said in a statement sent to BBC News, “Mel has become a very important and much-loved part of the Channel 4 family; for many of us, he is a friend and colleague.”

“His intelligence, warmth, humor and kindness shine through, and these qualities mean that everyone involved MAFSfrom the producers and contributors, to the viewers, love and respect him as we do,” added the network.
