Kyle Schmid Says Wife Caity Lotz Could Join NCIS: Origins As Love Interest

Kyle Schmid he is trying to find his work life balance behind him and his wife Caity Lotz welcomed their second child – and he’ll be happy to join the cast NCIS: The Origins.
“We have a tight schedule,” Schmid, 41, said to himself Us Weekly on his set for the CBS series, noting that he got a break after his wife, 39, welcomed their son, William, in February.
Schmid, who plays Mike Franks on the crime show, revealed that in order to film on time, he turns to Lotz to help him plan his day. (The couple shares daughter Lennox, 17 months.)
“Fortunately, my wife is an actress, and she gets it,” he said. “And he’s a rock star. He’s my rock and, you know, he rocks it, he makes it work.”

Sonja Flemming/CBSSchmid added, “When I’m at home, I’m there, and I’m the dad. And when I’m at work, I’m there, and I’m Franks. It’s just two different hats that you have to wear in this situation. So I think we’re doing well.”
While Schmid and Lotz found their rhythm as parents of two children, the actor said Us that the couple also talked about bringing Lotz on board NCIS: The Origins a cameo.
When asked if Lotz could play the “love interest” for Franks, Schmid laughed. “Oh my god, that would be great and weird at the same time,” she said.
Schmid admitted, “I don’t know if he would like the Franks.
“Look, I have talked to him about it, he is interested and willing to enter the program,” he explained. “And I know the writers would love to have him on the show. So it’s just a matter of finding the right character and the right time to be able to do it.”

He also found success behind the camera, writing and directing a 2019 short Twin Turbo.
Schmidt started acting in 1996. He made appearances on a children’s TV show. I was a Sixth Grade Visitor before playing Alex Thompson in the first Disney Channel movie Alley Cats Strike in 2000. He was playing Franks NCIS: The Origins from 2024.
Schmid and Lotz began dating in 2021 and got engaged the following year. They tied the knot in Colombia in February 2023.
In September 2024, the couple announced the birth of their first child, daughter Lennox. Their son, William, arrived in February.
“Changed forever ❤️ our boy is here,” the couple wrote in a joint Instagram post. “It’s true what they say about your growing heart. Unrequited love grows and grows. My heart is bigger and stronger than ever. This is our family 🥹.”

He said: “Juggling work, wife, kids, everything, the dog. You don’t understand your purpose in life – for me, at least I didn’t – I defined myself as an actor, and now, I’m a father first and foremost.”
Schmid added, “All I want in the world is to take care of my family and play with my kids and be with my wife. So I’m very lucky.”
Despite being bombarded with his life off camera, Schmid said his fans NCIS: The Origins there’s a lot to be excited about and the show’s return for the second half of season 2 on Tuesday, March 3.
“The second half of the season, it’s like the gloves are off. No catches are off limits,” Schmid said. Us. “The writers did a great job, like, you know, bringing all the things that are so important, so high.”
He scoffed, “There’s love in the air, maybe again. You know, we’ve been researching this game for 10 years, and this year especially, before our game, it’s very strong from what we see in it.” NCIS in the future. It’s really, really important.”
NCIS: The Origins returns to CBS on Tuesday, March 3, at 9 pm ET. New episodes air the next day on Paramount+.
