Kate Hudson emphasizes modern relationship culture, saying it’s “much easier” for people to end relationships now than to try to stay.

During a recent appearance on the “On Film…With Kevin McCarthy” podcast, the 46-year-old actor showed off his film “Song Sung Blue,” which centers on the relationship between his character Claire Sardina, a hairdresser and singer, and struggling singer and recovering alcoholic Mike Sardina (Hugh Jackman). The couple endures severe hardships but continues to stay together while chasing their dreams.

While admitting that it was “amazing” that people no longer feel obligated to stay in unhealthy relationships, Hudson shared her opinion that today’s culture can sometimes treat relationships as disposable.

“One of the things I think about in the movies is that it’s very easy for us to travel today,” he said.

“Relaxing is what it means to fight for something, to believe in something, to believe in your family, to believe in your relationships, to work hard for something,” he continued. “We live in a time – it’s amazing – people don’t have to stay in complicated relationships, but it’s much easier to leave than to stay these days.”

“I think the thing that hits people more than they want to admit, is that relationships and life are complicated,” Hudson added. “But if you have the grit and tenacity to stick with it or stick with someone or fix something, the other side of that is really strong, strong and beautiful, and it gives everyone a sense of security and love.”

The “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” star described the feeling as “a big blanket.”

Hudson went on to express his belief that the popularity of self-help books and podcasts reflects how people are struggling with the question, “What is it to live a healthy, long, beautiful life?”

“There’s something about movies when they hit you in a certain way,” he said, pointing to a touching scene between Mike and Claire, where, following a tragedy that could tear them apart, the characters reaffirm their love and devotion to each other.

“Like that scene, when you see it, you’re like, ‘Oh, if you get that comfort because you’re standing with someone, or you’re going through hard things, or you’re so inside that person that, like, you don’t know if they’re going to come, but you’ll never let … you’ll never leave that person,'” Hudson said. “At a time like that, you’re like, ‘Oh … that’s why we work so hard for love,’ but we need to work at it.”

Hudson added that he believes films like “Song Sung Blue” serve as a reminder to viewers that people can overcome adversity together.

“Life hits us hard with all kinds of things, and some people have it harder than others,” she said. “And then, when you see movies like that that are very reassuring … they can be really inspiring, that people can go through it if they just stick with it. Love that about this movie.”

“It’s like you take everything in a different light,” he continued. “You soak it in, and you have all these relationships you’ve made over the years, with people you know and really like, spend a lot of time with and work with. So the room feels a lot more comfortable than it did when I was 21.”

“I was young, wasn’t I?” Hudson added, “So I just really started my career, and it was a whole new room for me. And now I get to be at these parties and celebrate with friends. It feels different.”
