Kacey Musgraves opens up about her feud with Miranda Lambert.

In a recent interview with NPR, the 37-year-old singer opened up about the rumored feud between her and the “Gunpowder & Lead” singer after a song written by Musgraves ended up on Lambert’s 2013 album “Four the Record.”

“It was going to be my first single and I really liked the song,” Musgraves said. “I had been a staff writer for years at the time, writing for other people and finally I felt like I was collecting songs that felt like me that I didn’t want to listen to anyone else.”

He explained that he was “very happy” around her and the song at the time, “Mother’s Broken Heart” was sent to Lambert “without my knowledge or consent.” Lambert “ended up loving the song and really wanted it.”

Musgraves called it a “tricky situation,” noting that she “has other co-writers to consider” in the situation. In the end, Lambert wrote the song, leaving Musgraves to “go back to the drawing board.”

“And in the end, I’m so glad I did it, because it forced me to write ‘Merry Go Round,’ which ended up making me more creative, aesthetically and lyrically, to get my whole thing out, compared to ‘Mama’s Broken Heart,'” he said. “And that ended up going No. 1 for him. So in the end, everybody won because I was able to let something go.”

While speaking to the outlet, the “Deeper Well” singer announced that she has finished her sixth album, “Middle of Nowhere,” which will be available in May.

The new album will also feature Lambert, and Musgraves said that although they hadn’t heard each other in years, “and wouldn’t have considered friends,” she chose to connect with the singer after seeing her riding horses on Instagram.

He remembered thinking, “we’re not friends, but I think we have two things in common, horses and divorce.” Musgraves called working with Lambert “full circle”, saying they “aired any old laundry” and were able to write the entire song in just a few hours.

“Wait, that would be a really funny song. What if it’s a duet with him? What if I can get him to write on it?” he remembered thinking. “I just casually reached out to him and said, ‘I know we’ve had our s— over the years, but listen, we have at least two things in common. I’m not trying to be your friend. You have your life, I have mine. But I think this would be a f—ing funny song, and we should write it with Shane.’ [McAnally].’ And he was like, ‘Hell yeah, I’m in, let’s do it.’

Fox News Digital has reached out to Lambert for comment.

Lambert went public with her divorce from fellow country singer Blake Shelton in 2015, while Musgraves split from her ex-husband, singer Ruston Kelly, in 2020.

According to the release, her latest album will be “an audio love letter to the boundaries of country music,” and will feature songs “written during a time of reflection and clarity after a breakup.”
