Doja Cat Invites Timothee Chalamet For Ballet, Opera Comments

Chalamet, 29, recently angered the theater community after he said in an interview that “no one cares” about artistic methods.
“Opera is 400 years old. Ballet is 500 years old,” Doja, 30, said in a TikTok video on Sunday, March 8, calling out Chalamet by name.
“Someone named Timothée Chalamet — a great guy, by the way — had the nerve to say on camera that nobody cares,” the “Paint the Town Red” rapper said. “I am sure that you can enter the opera field, the seats will be full, no one will say anything as the play continues because everyone respects it in this way.”
He continued, “There’s etiquette around opera. There’s etiquette around ballet. It’s amazing. It’s amazing theater. It’s beautiful.”
Doja went on to praise people who work in ballet and opera for their dedication to the arts.
“People go there every day to go to the dance floor [at] 8am, 6am or whatever [time] they show up, break and arrest every day just because they respect you,” he says: “They love you, they love what they do. It doesn’t matter if an industry is having a hard time or what time it is … most industries have a hard time. Your industry is having a hard time. My industry is having a hard time. It doesn’t mean people don’t care about it. People care. Dancers care. Singers take care of them. The audience cares about them.”
“There are still listeners. People talk to each other. You seem to be wearing a nice dress, sit down and shut the f*** up,” he concluded. “That’s normal behavior in those things. Maybe learn something from that.”

During the interview no Matthew McConaughey for Variety last month, Chalamet talked about audiences with seemingly short attention spans.
“I love people [saying]’Hey, we have to keep the movie theaters alive. We have to keep this kind of music alive,'” he said. “I don’t want to work in ballet or opera where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though nobody cares anymore.’

The Oscar nominee has previously noted that many members of her family were ballet dancers, including her mother. Nicole Flender.
“My grandmother danced in the New York City Ballet, my mother danced in the New York City Ballet, my sister danced in the New York City Ballet,” he said. “I grew up dreaming of the big backstage at the Koch Theater in New York.”
