How NBC Honored Savannah Guthrie During Union Coverage

Tom Llamas he showed support for his colleague and friend Savannah Guthrie during the presentation of NBC’s State of the Union news.
“As we cover this — and if you’re an NBC News viewer, you usually watch this special night — Savannah Guthrie is usually here covering all of our special political stories,” Llamas, 46, said when NBC reported on President Donald Trump’s speech on Tuesday, February 24. “Yes, you’re dealing with the unimaginable right now.”
Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, reported missing in Arizona on February 1 after he was last seen the day before. Despite the Guthrie family offering a $1 million reward for the discovery of Nancy, 84, police have yet to identify a person of interest or suspect in the case.
“We know you’re out there, Savannah. We know you might be watching,” Llamas said. “We just want to let you know that we are praying for you and your mother. We know you will be back here at some point. Tonight is not the same without you, but we understand what you are going through right now.”
While covering Trump’s speech at the United States Capitol in Washington, DC, Llamas and his colleagues were seen wearing yellow ribbons, which have become a symbol of hope for the Guthrie family.
According to Llamas, the act was “following the lead” of Savannah’s Today show colleagues started at the beginning of the month.
During the episode 18 February of Today, Hoda Kotb explained to viewers why they might see too much yellow on the set of the NBC morning show.
“There are many people [are] placing yellow flowers around Nancy’s home and throughout the city [of Tucson, Arizona],” Kotb, 61, shared. “We got a suggestion from one of our viewers here, we’re doing the same here. Yellow roses by Studio 1A and we’re all wearing ribbons as we send our love to Savannah and her family.”

Courtesy of NBC News/YouTubeHours before the State of the Union, Savannah asked for the public’s help in finding her mother. In the air Instagram video, the journalist also expressed gratitude for all the prayers his family has received.
“We still believe. We still believe in miracles,” he said. “Does anyone know how to find our mother and bring her home.”
Savannah added, “We also know that he might be missing. He might be gone. He might be back home to the Lord he loves and he’s dancing in heaven with his mom and dad and his dear brother, Pierce, and our dad. If this is to be, we’ll accept it. But we need to know where he is. We need him to come home.”
According to the Today show, the FBI received “more than 750 tips related to Nancy’s disappearance” following Savannah’s latest message.
“There are other people who are close to what happened who know what happened,” the former FBI director said Jason Pack shared with NBC News. “Now they have a decision to make, and this decision could really be taken [affected] with this reward.”
